Default Part numbers for various parts

Hey all,

I wanted to throw an idea out there that might help probably all of us.

I was wondering if we can create a sticky post or even a thread that will list part numbers for various parts pertaining to FE or small blocks or even some general parts.

Now what I was thinking since there are so many options or opinions to the parts we would list only general parts, such as gaskets or items that we may have found at a local parts store NAPA, Advance, Auto Zone.

For instance, I needed a gasket for a expansion tank for an FE and was able to find it at Auto Zone. If I had the part # this would have helped rather than having the kid behind the counter telling me that our computers dont go that far back.

If we can not do it here, I would still like to do it using Google Docs or some other method.

Any ideas? thoughts?

I think that is a great idea! It needs to be a searchable database, or separated into specific catagories. I'm not sure one long thread would work; it could be difficult to find a specific item. Also, need to have a way to account for some items having more than one choice of manufacturer and p/n.

I've kept a list of manufacturers/part numbers/retailers for the parts I've used on my car. Right now it's all written in a spiral notebook.

BTW....I'm still trying to find a p/n for the gasket for the breather opening on the rear of the FE manifold. (I finally ended up making one.)

RodgerH,

Well I think we can possibly do this, it may need to be a team effort but doable.

We may be able to use some of Google utilities such as their excell doc and web sote creator to host.

Hopefully, we can get some more people on board that may have a better idea how to start organizing this.

I think this will help with those weekend projects when you need to get the last minutes parts.

As for the rear breather gasket I think it might be the same as the water neck on the front of the FE manifold.

The challenge is today's typical auto parts supplier (Autozone and Pep Boys, to name a few) is manned by people that can take instructions and type well ("Year and model of your car, sir?") but wouldn't know a spark plug from a spark arrestor. I think a cross-reference could be easily built. Whenever I need a gasket for my Windsor-based build, I typically start with 1970 Mustang or Torino (something that offered a Windsor in it back in the day) and then go from there. But having a NAPA part # equivalent would be a REALLY GOOD thing to have.

I still have fun with the green horns when I ask them about muffler bearings and blinker fluid. Someone has to break them in.

for those of us who have an FE in our Cobras we need gaskets that are not used on the small blocks( breather at rear of intake,or oil filter mount) so if you have ever gotten a complete gasket set for your FE you will find those gaskets in the kit.......however most gasket companies dont list those gaskets as "singles" because there isnt a call for them. The breather gasket is not the same as the thermastat gasket, there are 2 different thermastats used on the FE, there is a large diameter and a small diameter but they use the same gasket which should be the same gasket for the expansion tank.
so check your left over gasket sets you might be surprised what you find in there.
