Curb Weight.
Does anybody know the curb weight of a CR with a Big Block (460) w/cast iron heads? Along with that what the weight distribution might be?
thanks

I can tell you what a friend of mines weighed. He had a dual 4 set up with an aluminum intake and a built up C-6, which added weight, but his weighed right at 3,200 pounds. I don't remember if he ever brought it down and had us weigh it for distribution when we were setting our cars up or not. But from driving it I would guess it weighed more in the front by a fair amount. Don't forget the C-6 added quite a bit of weight but maybe this will give you a starting point and some of the guys that have them set up right can tell you more.

WOW, I weighed my EM and came in at 2,900 lbs. Thinking I was fat, maybe some estimate wishful thinking. Some kid on CL was selling a FFR, claiming a weight of 1,500 lbs. Would have liked to make a wager on that.
My guess would be a little less then 50/50 maybe 52/48 front to rear.

The wedge engines are heavy - heavier than most FEs even with the usual aluminum top parts. I know they're popular and something of a horsepower bargain, and can be real torque monsters without much build-up, but their size really makes them a problem in these cars. Pushing the curb weight to the 3000 pound range starts to undo everything a Cobra is good at.

At our local weigh-ins, FFRs and Kirkhams rule. Most other cars come in at the 2500 mark or a little over. Anything around 3000 though is a real porker....

My future desire is to go on a diet! Throwing out (removing) junk food. Also trying to eat (aluminum) right.

You really don't need the refrigerator or the back seat video entertainment system. Chuck the wet bar while you're at it. If anyone objects to your ditching the 10-way power captain's chairs... let 'em ride in the trunk.

I have a Classic Roadster with a small block and a T5Z 5 speed and at the Capital Area Cobra Club weigh in on actual 4 wheel racing scales, mine came in at 2480 and was practically 50/50 balance.
Aluminum heads, water pump, intake & flywheel. Steel McLeod bellhousing, not factory aluminum.

What's the problem with the size of the 385 series? Hell, everyone drools over the 427 SOHC engine in a Cobra and it's a lot bigger.
I have a 385 series in mine and love it. Only issue I have is that I have to remove the back spark plug on the drivers side from under the car. Actually I don't have to. It's just easier.

Silverback removing the rear plug, drivers side, is a problem on the FE as well. Myself and others, have drilled a hole inside the cockpit area for access. You can't see the plug, you kind of fish around with an extension on the spark plug socket until it fits. Works out pretty well for me.

CMC 460 with aluminum heads, intake, water pump,Tremec TKO, scaled at 2650 lbs with wgt bias of 53 rear 47 front.Only problem with car is tires, when they let go,it almost impossible to recover.385 guys don't fret, these rutting wars never end.My dog is bigger than your dog,Who really cares.Out on the highway everybody's fair game win or lose.If you try to go around me,you can bet it won't be a cake walk. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Left rear plug, cut and hinged a small door, the tunnel carpet is Velcrowed over it.Did the same for clutch adjustment.

Most likely will not be a cake walk because you will be going down the road sideways

Those big blocks without aluminum parts are heavy I would say your around 2750 lbs. The trade off is any pumped big block will melt the tires, It sure didnt stop Ford form killing the Italian cars

Sideways around in circles, don't matter,it will sure be an intimidating run.Actually setting the pinion angle at 4 degrees really slams the rearend down giving the car hard launches.Your right about losing traction with street tires in the twisties, it's asking for trouble. That's half the fun running on the ragged edge!!
