What do you mean registered? In Ohio, it really isn't a huge deal. It wouldn't matter what the title states as far as a year goes, the registration process would be the same.
As far as plates in Ohio are concerned, you just buy Collectors Plates. They are emissions exempt and you can get them for any car that is not considered generic. You just send a few pictures to the BMV, fill out a form, and you are good to go. If the car really is older than 25 years, then you get Historical Vehicle plates. You pay a one-time fee of $35 and you are good for as long as you own the car.
Personally, I think they should go by the year of the engine and body design. If the car resembles an old body style, and it has a 1972 engine, the make it say 1972 on the title.
It seems kind of out of place to have this guys F5 sitting next to maybe a continuation Cobra and both have the same year on the title. Except for the basic shape of the body, they aren't even close to being similar.
