Default New Buyer Needs Help in Atlanta

I live in Washington State and I just agreed to buy SPF in Atlanta contingent upon inspection. I thought I would fly out and inspect it before signing, but then I thought maybe there would be some local club owners that could check it out. With a thumbs up I could just have it shipped home. Dumb idea? I assume someone on Club Cobra lives near Atlanta and wouldn't mind checking it out. Please let me know ASAP. The Cobra is at Maseratti of Atlanta. Call me at 360 739-6803 and leave a message if I don't pick up. Thoughts?

If there aren't any owners that can help you locally, this shop did the install of my powertrain, knows cobras and could do an inspection:

nobody will ever look at the panel gaps, paint job for defects, interior marks that would bother you. If it were not very close to new, I would be on a plane. I can hear it now, "oh, I never noticed that" when you talk to PO and it is sitting in your garage.

There must be 20 cobra owners in that area that would love to check it out. I'm sure some folks will be chiming in soon. Weather here is about to go bad big time, so it might take a couple of days. In the end, I would't consider picking up something that expensive sight unseen. You need to drive it after it's been certified "purchase worthy" from one of the local guys. Many of the locals are FFR guys who built their cars themselves. They should know exactly what to look for.

Hey there. I'm in the area and I'll try to get by there to check it out. I may know which car this is and if so, it's in great shape. I bought my Cobra out of state and luckily had a brother in the area who could check it out for me. He is as thorough as I am, so I knew his opinion would be as good as me being there.
I'll try to get by over the weekend and I'll let you know if I do.
On the other hand, nothing wrong with hoping on a plane and coming to the ATL. Buy a one way ticket so you can drive it back

Greg,

That would be great. I'm booked on a flight getting into Atlanta Wednesday night, take the MARTA up to a Roswell hotel. Thursday AM (Feb 4th) I'll be picked up by the salesman to make the deal. My return flight departs at 4:15 PM Thursday. The flight was only $340. My brother says I better get a mechanic to check it out. I'm not much of a mechanic and can't really hear, but I sure know how to spend some real bucks!

I would really appreciate your checking it out. It should be marked sold but it is contingent upon satisfactory inspection. It always helps to have someone point out areas to check out more. These cars are so gorgeous and your emotions are through the roof, it is hard to find the flaws. A perfect example of love is blind. Since I'll be pretty much worthless, if you could take a look and let me know if you see any question marks, that would be a big help.

Is it OK for me to update my Club Cobra car details now or is that sacrilegious? If I have HALF the fun drinking beer in my garage staring at my Cobra as I have had shopping for one, it will be well worth the cost. Cost? What cost honey.....?

The Maserati dealer in Atlanta is Ferrari of Atlanta. I guess that is who you are buying the car from. They have an excellent reputation with most folks. Check out this thread from the Ferrari board...

I live in Atlanta and own a Superformance. You will love it. I bought mine in a similar fashion. I saw the car on Cobra Country. It was in Richmond, VA. Did a deal contingent on the car being as described. My mechanic offered to fly up with me to check it out. Other people told me the car was great -I had nothing to worry about. Just fill it with gas and drive it home. I flew to Richmond with my wife (one way tickets). Drove the car around for 20 minutes. Gave the owner a check and had lunch with him and his wife. We drove the car home on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Perfect.

That was November 2006. Still smiling.

Jack

I agree check the mechanical but focus on paint body the real money in these cars is in the body and paint. It is very easy to replace a clutch etc, no so with paint and body!!
