The folks who bought the "old" FFR's knew what they were buying - if they cared deeply about the accuracy of the body shape, they would have shopped elsewhere.
I cared very much about the body shape, but went with what I could afford and made a few changes that I thought helped. It's something that I've just had to live with but I realize that for the most part it bothers only me.
I just wonder what all those FFR guys that have said over the years, "I think the perky butt looks better and/or more racy." are going to say now.

The Factory Five MK IV just steam rollered the playing field.

While the new body stokes me up, I'm not ready to give 4440 the "heave ho" just yet Todd. I never had any issue with the butt before so this changes nothing for me. My car was on display at the Solidworks 2010 World Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center yesterday and there wasn't a single complaint out of the 3000 or so engineers, designers and guests that poked and groped at it either. I'm content for the time being. Whether that changes later depends on whether my old bones and joints feel up to the rigors of another build.

Frank,
I hope you know I posted that pic because I think it's one of the best FFR builds I've ever seen. I've never felt compelled to sell off my ride either but I think I'm ready for a 289 build with FFR underpinnings. It will be an emotional event if I ever see my MK1 leave the roost but the time is ripe.

Todd,
No problem at all, I knew you were just giving me a friendly nudge. And thanks for the compliment.

I'm about 65% into the completion of my MKIII (3.1). I love the look of the new model, and it's improvements, (although untested), they would be nice to have.
The number of people in the world who really know the originals, and what is authentic, and what is not, is limited to a small core group of Cobra junkies. The "Is it real?" question, that is asked of every replica owner over and over, is proof of that. The true Cobra buff would never ask. They would be looking for build quality, perhaps custom mods the builder incorporated, engines used, etc., knowing full well it's a replica.
Less and less I see replicas that are built to look authentic. In the early days of replicas, builders struggled to get the original look down pat. Today the builds are about what the owner personally wants in his car, be it wild paint schemes, custom interiors, stereo systems, and fancy mag wheels, etc..
Am I disappointed I don't have the new MKIV...I really don't expect I will ever think about what my trunk lid/hinges looks like, when I'm out cruising. The joy of driving is what these cars are all about in my mind.

Frank is a fellow neighbor and his car in person is everything and more than even good pictures do it justice. One of the better FFR builds you will see and Frank is ever so modest about it all.

Hi Guys at FRR.
I made a trip to the factory in Mass some time ago; Back in 2006, I ended up purchasing the Backdraft Racing Roadster and have been extremely happy with the performance and fit and finish.
The one thing that turned me off from the FFR MKIII was those ungodly out side bolts and the extra costs required to make the cobra look finished. I don't care if the car's specs was an exact clone of the original, I just wanted something clean, finished looking, and fun to drive. By the way, There are so few originals, never mind finding one on the road, so an exact replica did not concern me.
I'm am happy though that the new improvements made to the FFR MK IV body look so much nicer that their previous models. I've seen beautiful older FFRs and Horrible FFRs completed, but each had those bolts on the outside and some other body issues that were immediately recognizible as a FFR. Inconsistent builds also turned me off.
However, NOW with the MK4 things have changed. This new FFR looks pretty convincing now. I like it much better. Good Job FFR. If this model had come out 4 years ago, I might have got one. But for now, I'll still prowl around in my Backdraft. After all this is the true reason why we getrr these cars.

Backdraft is a great way to go, no doubt. I know several former FFR owners that own Backdraft cars and they are very pleased. The FFR cars are for guys who own large tool boxes. The Backdraft cars are for guys who own a crescent wrench.

I saw the mkIv at moochfest, beautiful body! I'm actually sitting in the car in a pic on their website. I still plan to own a Bdr - small tool box (and I move a lot).

I have done lots of research into finding out which CSX car was used to create the Hurricane (even old #198 is a possibility). The original theme of this thread was regarding 198, so what's the word in FFR circles on if/where it fits into the new MK IV design equation? I have done some graphic overlays between pics I have of 198 and the new FFR car (with the few limited pictures on their website) and there appears to be very little resemblance. Anyone heard anymore about this?
