Motor vehicle inspection ?

How does it work in Usa. Is it every year? Have you hp limits?

In sweden our cars we built are classified as amateur built vehicle. First they must go throug a build inspection in 2 step. One half done. Type, construction inspection. Then they test the driveabilyty.
You also have to do a noise test. Think its 84db. Its hard.

All this is done by a organisatin called Sfro. They works beside the official inspection on voluntary basis.
After all that , a registration inspection is done by the official inspection.Called car testing in Sweden.

We have hp restriction. But i dont think no one have the hp thats on the paper? Not after anyway.

You dont have to do any inspection for 3 years. Then it is every year

There are a few federal (national) requirements but mostly inspection, approval, licensing and registration are up to the individual states. Some have very relaxed rules and require little more than payment of registration fees and a cursory inspection. Others are very difficult. Some, such as California, are very relaxed about the vehicle itself and don't enforce bumper, height, windshield and other regulations, but are very fussy and complex about paperwork and smog. Some states require a general vehicle inspection every year or two, and even a smog check although it's meaningless. California has no vehicle inspection program and - if you're lucky enough - you can get a permanent smog exemption. They only issue 500 per year so you have to get in line first thing at the start of the start of the year and hope you have everything in order.

An 84dB noise limit is probably a good thing, overall, but I don't think many US Cobras would meet it. Is that idling at a certain RPM or a drive-by test at a specific speed?

I'm sorry to say I don't know what you mean by "hk" - so I can't say if it applies here or not.

How old does a car have to be to qualify as a historic vehicle, and what is required to prove the age? Does this simplify things in Sweden? Some Cobra kit cars date back to the late 70´s.

Sorry. I mean Hp. Hk in sweden. Changed that.
We dont have smog requarments as new cars. Just some basic co test. Amatuer built vehicle has smog dispens. But i think i have heard that cat could be requaried.

Its a drive by test. Second gear at 30mph then full gas. The exhaust is usully full of noise damping matrial. Of course, only at the test

Wild cars. Think it is 30 years. No road tax. Dont now if you got that? and inspection every two years.
If you mean the year of the model. No its when the year the specific car its registrated.

So if you have a oginal 66 cobra for exampel. That one is classified like historic.

But i think its called veteran vehicle here.

In this state we can register as Antique,or StreetRod, making inspections not required.
