A clear success due to Obama and his recovery plan. (the Toyota thing was done by Covert Ops)

And now they want to invest in building a high speed rail system to get cars off of the road. It makes perfect sense, invest in car companies and say that the long term strategy is to get people out of cars.

Subaru (small/niche) was the only brand in the US that had sales gains each of the last two years. 25% sales jump in January.

Hopefully more Americans are becomig Patriots and supporting our home built and home owned companies. I understand that many Americans work in assembly plants making the ricers, but wouldn't it be great if they were building American cars, trucks and motorcycles.
Screw the ricers!

And to top off the Toyota recall for sticking accelerators, yesterday I saw in the news that their hybrid car now has sticking brakes and they have to look into that. Maybe combine the two and the speeding up could overcome the stops.

the sticking brakes were developed to cancel out the sticking gas pedal

Well after 10 Toyota Land Cruisers and my most recent 2010 Tundra Platinum (which is made down the road in San Antonio, Texas by real Texans using more American-made parts than Dodge or Chevy) I have to say I am amused at the hype of this recall. Its amazing how after Pinto gas tank explosions and Jeep CJ rollovers we forget that the American auto manufacturers INVENTED and forever defined for Webster the concept of a recall. Lee Iacocca said it best, "If you can find a better car, buy it."

So I did. Eleven times.

I think the scope of the recall is the reason. They just announced more Toyota models were added to the list this morning, and it is worldwide not just in the States. I ended up buying a German car recently because I could not find an American car with a turbo diesel option. I do own American trucks though and they are great. I have an 04 2500 HD Duramax and an 83 Dodge ram and I would not trade them for any Jap trucks.

BTW, I also own a jeep wrangler and the rollover problems are highly exaggerated (sp). I also watched a special a couple years ago where they tested urban legends, and they tried to get a Pinto tank to expload and failed.

Not trying to start an argument , but I watched the "urban legend exploding Pinto fuel tank " incinerate two people many years ago in Augusta , GA when they were hit from behind trying to merge onto Bobby Jones Expressway . You/I could see one of the people still in the back seat and the others trying to get to her . A young child was also killed in that wreck .

The Wrangler exists BECAUSE of the "CJ" roll-over issues. You are correct about the Pinto. And the GM "saddle tanks" and the Explorer are also urban legend.

Don't miss the Corvair Birthday Party

" Hemmings will be honoring the 50th birthday of the Chevrolet Corvair at the New England Concours on Sunday, July 18. To show everyone just how innovative these compact cars really are, our goal is to have on display one example of every Corvair model ever built. If you own a correctly restored or well-preserved original Corvair and would like to be part of this very special tribute, kindly send photos of your Corvair to rlentinello@hemmings.com "

I think that's cool-showcasing the LAST innovative thing GM did.

You forgot about the rear-steer Chevy pickup.
