Default QA1 Coil Over Lower Mount Question

I have a mustang II front suspension set up in my CR. I have tubular upper arms and stock new stamped steel lowers. All are mounted on urethane bushings. I just bought a QA1 coil over conversion. It uses stock stamped lowers. I noticed that the shock mount which also supports the spring load is ridgidly mounted to the bottom of the shock. It does not rotate. I would have assumed that it rotated on a bottom gimble bearing. In other words the bottom mount appears to have to be kept loose so that it moves on the bolt body as the lower arm moves up and down. Does anybody have any info on this? Thanks

what style is the bottom mount of the shock? two studs or eyelet? my coilovers are eyelet, the bolt that runs thru is the pivot. there is a steel spacer in the shock bushing which gets pinched in-between two outboard spacers to secure the shock, still allowing for movement radially.

Mine is an eyelet on the bottom with a bushing and a steel tube thru the bushing. The steel tube is held in position with two retaining rings. Perhaps with enough load the tube will twist in the bushing. I know if you put a pair of water pump pliers on it, it will not rotate.

the bolt will spin in spacer, or the spacer may be designed like a heim joint, does it look like there is a radius on the spacer like it could be round. mine can actually rotate inside the shock housing. shove a bolt in and try to rack the spacer, i think you'll find it will rotate at any angle inside the eyelet.

i'll post a pic tomorrow of mine so you see what i mean.

I will have to look at mine a lot closer. Maybe just because they are so new they are too tight to move. I will let you know. Thanks so much..

My shocks have a bottom mount that's like a rod end. The center will move around as needed. To test yours, remove the top bolt, and see if you can easily move the shock around.

I currently have Koni's. But I used to have QA-1's. As I recall, the mounts were the same between the two shocks.
