Question

What happened to the picture and just where in Texas is it at? You might find one of the Texas Cobra Club group that is near it and they could look it over for you. Did they say why it can't be registered in the United States?

It looks like it would be a nice car if the damage isn't to bad. But it will be hard to sell at any price if it can't be registered in the U.S.

I have not gone and seen it yet, but I remember it having a 66 Mustang VIN. I will try to go look at it this week.

Well that Mustang Vin would probably explain why it can't be registered here. But it seems they could have the Vin changed depending on which state you are in. Here we could go through the SB-100 process and have the CHP issue a new Vin.

Is there any further info - maker, engine, running gear? I'd ass/u/me that the Mustang VIN means it's something based on donor tech (FFR?) but my eye is not good enough to tell what maker it is from the details.

There are other reasons it can't be registered in the US........

Laws were passed after hurricane Katrina, that basically said any flood damage/totaled car from Katrina would get a "destruction/dismantlers title" and can not be legally registered or driven on public roads....those vehicles were now "parts cars only"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not 100% sure, but this may still apply to any hurricane flood cars since Katrina which was in Sept. of 05........

Some states also issue destruction titles for flood damage vehicles, varies from state to state, idea was to keep this vehicles off used car lots and unsuspecting buyers........

This car could have fallen into one of the above catagories....one would have to actually see the title to see exactly why it can't be registered......

Sooo... tear it down, clean it up, and take it to your local DMV as a newly completed special-construction. You'd need the original MSO, though.

As several of us found out this year, CA didn't want to see any prior title or registration info for SB-100 registration.

we had a dozen brand new tractors in katrina. They were sold as scrape. Unfortunatly we didn't know the law. You are supposed to turn in the titles and get a 'scrape' title. they weren't insured so we didn't send the titles to an ins co. which would have known what to do. A few months later the FBI called us wanted some history. Somebody bought one for about 75K-75% of orig price. Thought they were getting a deal. We didn't get into trouble because the bill of sale had the scrape details on them

Default Cobra flood

This vehicle was a Hampton, VA salt water flood. Sold at three different salvage auctions or tried to sell it.
