Default Another bad SW tachometer!

This is frustrating. My SW Tach went bad so I purchased another one. I have the dash out of my Cobra for paint, so this looked like a good time to replace it. The SW Tach I received---out of the box with no power, ground or sig connections---reads 1k rpm. It's not at zero with no power.

Damn!

Looks like I need to return this for a replacement.

Unless, of course, this is normal? I wouldn't think so, but anyone know better than I?

I'm just glad I noticed this before I went through all the trouble of replacing it and reinstalling the dashboard.

I think some need to be powered to reset. Once powered and grounded it might work just fine.

I called Summit after I experienced the same thing with a SW tach I purchased from them. I was told it would reset after being powered up Apparently it's normal.

The above comments are correct. S/W tachs don't necessarily return to zero when the ignition is off.

Well, that's a relief. I bought it in June when my paint target was August, and, well, that schedule slipped until now and it sat on my workbench ticking time off the warranty.

I'll try it once my Cobra returns from paint.

Thx

My Autometer does the same thing but works perfect when running. Russ

My first tach worked great for a while, then started dropping out at high rpms. As I rev'd up, it would climb and then drop down to ~2500---even when I knew I was turning higher.

This tach is the replacement. I've got my fingers crossed that it will reset once installed and fired up.
