Default Looking to buy first cobra-need some help

I have loved the cobra since I was a kid and it's time to buy one.
I looked at a 2007 Backdraft car recently. It has 17" wheels, a Ford racing crate 302 engine, 2000 miles, quick jacks, no top or tonneau.
There are several rock chips on the rear fender in front of the rear wheels. Five or six other chips or blemishes.
The car drove great and is nice underneath.
I have done a lot of research but I still have a few questions.

Is it normal for the door jambs and inner hood area to have the paint rubbed off them in places where the door and hood close on them or are these alignment issues?

What would be a good price for me to pay for this car?

Thanks

A good price is hard to say ...gonna need more information.

Rock chips on the rear fender are "normal" for these cars unless you have protection for it: 3M tape, carbon fiber spats, leather spats, aluminum spats, ... If you are looking for a show car you should be looking at a new car, if not, sh!ts happen when you drive them, and it would be sad to have a garage car. What do you want to do with it?

Any spot where paint rubs will results in the paint wearing off. Are they in places that are veiwable under normal conditions or just whe you are looking at it. BDR has rubber stops in the hood area to adjust the hood height to avoid paint on paint wear.

Stone chips are inevitable, as for paint rubbing off the jambs, occasionally you will get this as people lean on the doors (you do not want to use the doors or the windshield to support your weight while getting in and out of the car) to get in and out of the car,,,,Hoods have a tendancy to rub if going over particularly bumpy roads, again, this is to be expected over time. As for price, you really need to give a lot more details of the car, post some pictures, more detailed description of the drivetrain, mileage, ect so we can assist you with that aspect further. Welcome to the madness, you'll find the hunt to be only half the fun.

I have listed the options, miles (2000). It has a tremec 5-speed with Ford Racing 302 crate engine. Undercarriage nice. Engine compartment very nice.
I would rather not post a picture out of respect to the owner.
Some of the scratches and chips in the paint are in areas where you don't get rock chips. Aside from the chips and rub marks the car is perfect.
It probably would cost around $1500 to $2000 to repair and paint the damaged areas of the body. I realize chips and rubs will happen but I would like to start fresh.
It drove very nicely and was a blast to drive.
I plan on driving the car 3000 miles per year. Not interested in seriously showing the car but a few shows are likely. I enjoy driving more.
Thanks for the replies so far. Please keep 'em coming.

Then you either need to keep looking or consider buying new. There is lots of inventory available out there...don't get smitten with the first car that you see/drive. My $0.02.

Which Ford racing engine (it makes a difference in value)?
What color combination (interior/exterior/stripes)?
Which Tremec 5spd (again it makes a difference)
Which clutch and bellhousing (is it blowproof?)?
Which 17" wheels, what tires are on it? (again these all help when trying to assess value on a car we cannot see in person)?

The finer the details, the better we can assist you.

Bill,
Thanks for helping me narrow this down.
The engine is Ford Racing 302 with 345 hp. Trans is tremec T-5. The wheels are 17" Halibrand style knock-offs. Tires are Goodyear F1.
Heater and defroster. Ceramic coated headers. Optional interior. To my knowledge it doesn't have a blowproof bellhousing.
Owner is asking $39,000.

Dave,
What part of the country are you in? I think 39 is high for that combination. Give us an idea of how old the BDR is.... BDR 1xx 5xx? I'm guessing it's a pretty new one with 2k miles.

From what little you've said, seems value should be around 36-37 given the chips. Isn't worth considering new ones? You can get a stroker with over 400hp for 41k. See Jay, screenname "Cashburn" at Vintage motorsports. I've been watching BDRs for 2 years now, and just purchased mine.

I'm not an expert on pricing, but my .02 from watching prices...

PJ

I exceeded my price point significantly to get a Roush 402R with many extras.

But Jay is offering a sterling grey right now for 41k with a stroker... nice car!
