Early '68s were the same 2-4 set up. They only went to a single 4 when they went CJ mid year, and it was a cast iron CJ intake not an aluminum Shelby. By '68 Ford was building them and much like the current run of "Shelby" cars, he just signed off on them.....if he did that much.
I think the "2 joints" song was after Marley passed away, the band is called Sublime. I think you'd have to drop acid to think that the '68 was the King of anything. Even though they were also Ford made and couldn't compete with the Mach Is, I like the '69s much more than a '68...which, again, is too chintzy looking to me. Too much of nothing in my mind. I would have to put that at the bottom of the barrel for Shelby's.
I still drool when I think of the '67 GT350 I almost bought in '69, headers,Abarth exhaust and Blue with a black interior. As pointed out that was a Hi-Po 289 and not the run of the mill 302 that the '68 came with. As someone stated, it is ALL personal preference...with the exception of values paid for them. I would like to see a '68 that was ever worth more than any '67 and earlier car. I don't mean some rare 427 powered one, but a showroom available model. I regularly service some '70s, a '67 and a '65( original owner in original condition). I don't even feel slighted that I don't have a '68 in my customer base, the 2 Boss 302s make up for it. I would like the chance to drool over the fender of a Boss 9 at some point though.

Mustang or Shelby, I'm partial to the '65 & '66's. After that they gained too much weight.

I have driven many a mustang and I too still love the early cars. --

I do have a love of the CJ powered cars (driving them , not working on certain parts of them )

Like the steering boxes and the master brake cylinders in the BigBlock Cars. -- ugh!

After restoring a customers black on black GT500KR convertible a couple of years ago, it was a neat car, but I was glad to get back behind the wheel of my 64.5

sure I could use more power, but then that is what my CSX is for.

I personally think the 67 Shelby is Hard to beat! I also think the 65 GT 350 is and should always be the benchmark for all the Shelby's. I own a 66 Fastback with all the Shelby suspension mods and pretty tricked out. It drives and handles like a racecar! I have a 67 GT500 in my garage as well and it is night and day driving experience! The 67 is way more refined and more comfortable to drive. I also just got my ERA FIA on the road and wow is that a difference. I've only got 15 miles so far on it but man is it a different animal! Still unsure but I will get use to it.

I think what makes the 67 so intriguing is that they really are a one off year production and have all there own little quirks. The running lights were a neat production piece that was eventually left off because of the expense of installing and running the extra wire, etc. I think the cars are just incredible looking with all the side scoops, spoilers, and extra fiberglass. It really must have been a true exotic car back then because it still has that same appeal now! The 68's, to me, just don't have that same effect. They were not built by Shelby and I think the designers just tried to refine it too much. The nose for me is just too much. BUT, they did improve a lot of brake and mechanical parts over the 67! What's weird to me though, is I feel more cramped in the 67 than I do in my 66? I would take any of them, with no problems!! Thanks, Matt

Good comments guys , I gotta say you have opened my mind on the 67' . On the red headed step child comment the 67' gt350 was always the lowest price so.. least loved....I may dig out my hemming and mustang monthlys to show the price change ... if anyone is interested .

For me (R-models and race cars aside), the early '66 "leftovers" would be my first choice, with '65s second, '67 GT500s third, and '69-'70 GT500s fourth. I think the '68s are butt ugly, and would not own one. Throw the '67 and '69-70 GT350s in a pool for fifth.

Styling-wise, I think the '67s nailed it. Beautiful cars from any angle.

Wow really ? After the cobra 289 and 427 I would say the 68' GT 350 or the Ferrari F355 , in my list of best looking cars . then maybe black 66' hertz and of course a 67 gt 500 Elanor Just kidding .

I'd have to second both of those comments. What prices each car has very little bearing, except for investors. Car people like to drive cars. That's the nice thing about havinjg a vehicle portfolio over a paper one, not only do you get to look at it, you can actually use it. I'd rather total one of my collector cars than see an investment turned to scrap because of the greedy investors that handle stock. Disclaimer; not every stock investor is GREEDY, but currently they seem to have the lead.
Sorry that your eyesite is tainted by pricing. To put the '68 Shelby in the same sentence with a Ferrari, of any kind, is just unbelievable.

When Ford (Lee I.) decided to have the scalloped rear-end, I fell out of favor for the old steed. I loved my 65' Notch. I know it's still around the Santa Clara area.... CZF613 if you spot it, let me know. ... seriously. I'd buy it back.

Back on topic: you can't really compare the GT350 to the 67's because the 65 Mustang "Cobra" was probably more of a test to see if the "race on Sunday, sell on Monday" worked.
That answered the question succinctly so they continued this for a few more years but they started getting bloated. Was it the 69' with all the naca ducts all over the front-end? As a child, I thought that was THE SH!T of the day. It certainly looked racy to me at 10. Early Mach series was cool too. But I would imagine a Boss 302 would fetch more money than a 67' Mustang Cobra.

I think you missed my point on prices , I was saying before Elenor and after the crash in 91' prices were made by collectors , enthusiasts , after Elenoir ....guys with to much cash that don't know the difference between a corvair and a corvette . i don't understand your 68' Shelby , 355 Ferrari comment I feel there both striking to look at , you disagree ?

NA You can get a 302 for forty if your lucky . Lowest ive seen asked for a 67 has gotta be above 100k..... 68' $65k

No I didn't miss the point...it's irrelevant. I would like to see a pricing of '67 Shelby's to '68 Shelby's that show the '68 having more value. Now I am talking the pre-CJ cars. I think the CJ adds to the interest, but overall the '67s have always had more value than a '68 for a multitude of reasons. '67 Mustang values were escalated more from the Eleanor craze than the Shelby's. You can't include Eleanor( that's how it's spelled, if you are checking Elinoir prices that's another car...don't know what) clones in the price comparison since few were ever Shelby's. They are basicly custom Mustangs and had all sorts of options installed that weren't even thought of at time of original production. I don't have the new registry, but I believe that they are in a separate section away from the GTs. The only reason they qualify is because of the "cs" patina, which falls far short of the patina an original possesses. Brakes,engines and a multitude of other parts are added to the Eleanor that add to the value over a regular 'stang as well. They are basicly a 'stang shell that the buyer added whatever they wanted to. No comparison in pricing as far as I'm concerned. Kind of falls into the Original Cobra over even a Shelby replica Cobra category.
No I don't think the '68 is as nice to look at. Was the 355 the ugly Ferrari? If so maybe that is a good comparison. Although as mentioned the '69s had a bunch of naca scoops on the front, I think it far exceeds the appearance of the '68 as do ALL other Shelby's for that matter. But I prefer the Street 427 over the S/C and the 289 most of all. If you like the '68 ..buy one and enjoy it.
I may be off base here, but from all the posts I've seen that you start, I believe you are just a pot stirrer. Other sites refer to that as a troll.

Ah, now I see how the Ferrari F355 got inserted into the discussion. Now my question is why? Why the F355? Why not the 360 or the 430? The 308's, 328's and 348's are nice to look at too.

If it were me, I would love to own any '67 or '68 Shelby; however, I prefer the '67's, but the '68 (KR or not) convertibles would be right there.

I would not turn my nose up, if offered a 65/66 or a 68, but the '67 is just a little nicer IMHO
Of course having an original, (as in an original cobra) is akin to having a museum piece. Certainly not something which one would take to modifying in a big way, without effecting the value.

The nice thing about doing a tribute car/restomod is being able to take a little artistic license and make the car, like it should have been made, back in the day.
Some of the things I did to mine
Make all the fiberglass fit better.
Block sand the (raw fiberglass) underside of the hood and trunks (so it looks pretty)
Raised the back spoiler and radiused the arc
Stretched the metal quarter panels just a tiny bit and moved the inner wheelhouses inboard just a little bit
made the rear brake ducts functional (instead of blowing air on the rear tires)
lowered it 1.5" rear 2" front
plus a plethora of other crap

but I did whimp out so to speak.
I traded the toploader for a TKO
I tired of the old manual steering FE combo, and changed it to power steering
and I am adding air conditioning, next month

It's actually becoming a pretty civilized car to drive (other than having to tow a fuel truck)

So Woods428 gave me the push I needed to dig threw my old mags for price guides . Guess what ? a 67' is more than a 68' , But it gets better 67' 500 is more than a 68' KR . I realize in 07' that was the case But 02'.... the prices wern't crazy yet . Then I googled " gone in 60 " filmed in 2000 ..so maybe i'm still right ?

67FEfastback I gotta agree if I did a clone of a 68' , I would improve the interior , and change all the badges to ford/mustang .

Had a lot of Canada's finest following me. So it's saved a lot of $ glancing in the rearview mirror, lately.

Hmmm, bushbar on a plain tahoe with poverty hubcaps and narrow snowtires. Kind of a givaway when there is no snow and it's sunny.
Most guys with suv's like that have waay nicer rims.

Fortunately I have not been followed by the more challenging highway patrol vehilces, like the minivan, volvo s/w etc

I still think that's kinda like cheating
There's no fun in it anymore when they are not driving a big old crown vic
