You have a beautiful car. ERAs are great. Just curious why you have to run down competitive cars? In a thread(s) that didn't (don't) ask you your opinion of them.

I was just trying to find out whether my friend was pulling my leg or not (he's been known to do that). No offense intended.

I lost you after about 40% into reading that sentence. Friend? You have friends?

I don't think you could pass the Suzie Orman, "can you afford it test". That being said I still think I would see if the wife would go for buying a Hurricane and building your own. Then you could still fix the house and have money left over. However, the wife is more important than the car.

House projects will never end. Once you do one thing, there will come another. Do what you need to to keep you house in good condition, and buy yourself a reasonable Cobra ($70k for a SPF? Better be freshly built. Shop around.).

And those of you with the "Happy wife, Happy life" mindset? That's just a poor excuse for bad behavior on the wife's part. If she makes you miserable because she didn't get what she wants, might be time to shop around in that department, too. An adult throwing a temper tantrum is not a pretty sight.

If $70K is anything but an expensive mistake then you should not and cannot afford to buy one. PERIOD. In reality $70K wont change my lifestyle, maybe 2 or 3 million and all that would get me is another spot in my garage and trust me I am far far far far from retirement or "rich". You talk about needing fences and AC, you are on the wrong forumn, you will hope to see Mr. Mustang show up at 60% because when I show up it will be 40%!!

In all seriousness look for a 2006-2008 Miata for about $16K, you will have sooo much fun with ac, leak proof, bullit proof reliability, you will never look back. Cobras are a strange breed, kinda like drugs, if you never had one you wont miss it, if you get one you will always have one. The miata is my all time funniest car until my spf, big difference is the spf is 4 times the cost. You are married to a good women at least one of you thinks correctly.

When ever you have to think about all the things going on around you, you are going to be sorry. Never say never, or you will be to old to get in and out of the SPF. Just do it and figure out the rest. Tell her you want to bond with her , that is why you bought the SPF, maybe even let her drive it.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback...

First off the roof doesn't leak the fence is fine and standing. OK maybe the AC could work a little better. My marriage is not in danger if I were to get the Cobra.

She just used those as things the money could be spent on. I told her I would post and get a vote from all of you. And determine what I would do. She knows she is in a losing battle, once she agreed to go to Seattle with me.

Yes, that 70K is for a brand new SPF with Roush 427R TKO 600 short throw shifter 18" polished rim with 295 wide wheel option and bumpers. You can see what the car will look like go to D&M Motorsports under Superformance stock M3480 the lambo orange. I have three blue cars to choose from. Park place also has an already built Guardsman blue in stock with 427R. Both could be purchased new for under 70K.

Although it might be in my best intreseted to sell the boat and Harley.

Unless you absolutely have to have that $70k SPF, look around - there are a
lot out there for around $50k that are debugged and broken in. If you haven't
had one of these before you would not be risking a major financial loss on the
$50k version vs the $70k one if, for whatever reason, you weren't happy with
it. There are some great stories here where people weren't really up to a Cobra and took a bath when they got rid of it. Not saying you are like that or
anything but just putting it out there for consideration.

Good luck with your choice! Whatever it is - if she is happy too, no problem.

Buy a big tarp for the roof and electrify the existing fence to keep the kids and pets confined to the yard. Plant lots of ivy to grow and cover the fence. Buy the Cobra.

Remember the Harley commercial with the grandfather and the grandson on the porch? The old man is telling the grandson "there is nothing like the sound of a Harley, the freedom and the wind blowin in your face!" You had a Harley grandpa? No, I spent the money on aluminum siding"

"You had a Cobra Grandpa? No, I spent the money in a new roof and a fence!"

A previous poster referenced Abraham Maslow's work, so I did a quick review of the hierarchy of needs presented in his 1943 paper, A Theory of Human Motivation and found the below chart. The man was clearly ahead of his time.

I was very close to selling my SPF before coming to my senses.

Patch the roof. Forget the fence. Sweat a little. Buy the car.

If you can afford it, and it won't cause a divorce, go for it.

Life is short, and dreams too few, make memories while you can.

It would seem to me that it would only "cause a divorce" if the money you spent on the Cobra took away from spending it on something else that really mattered. The best advice is to only buy a Cobra if it essentially does nothing more than change some numbers on some papers (your financials, that is). Do not buy it if it affects other parts of your financial life. And only you know the truth on whether it will or not.

If I were you I'd sell the boat (you won't have the time for it) and the Harley (you won't want it anymore) and buy a Cobra (not a $70k version). This way the house gets fixed and you get your fix.
