Firestone Firehawk - 295/50/15 $120.00
I would think the Mickey Thompson S/T would be a great choice for everyday performance driving.

I replaced my Eagle GT II's with the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R's. I keep 'em at 22 psi front and 20 psi back and I'm driving on Velcro!

What??? I didn't know there was a choice! I just told Krause I wanted then grooved and he never asked about any options for the tires. He DID ask WHY I wanted them grooved, as if it were a bit of an odd request, I guess... Basically I wanted grooves just in case I need to drive the car on the street for a short distance. Like from a local race track to home, or from a race track to a hotel, just keeping my options open. I WILL run them on the street for a bit, just to get a feel for the bite before I do the track thing.
I'm currently doing my best to wear out the GT-II's, at least the rear ones. I'll mount the slicks on a second set of wheels I have so I can go back and forth at will.

The old tread just looks more natural to me.

Wow, the bottom pic looks like a "real" street tire all right! My pattern is like the top pic. I considered the Avons, which the Kirkhams like a lot. I also considered some other brands. For the track I think the Goodyear slicks are hard to beat, for the street there are many options. I will likely go back to the Goodyear Bill Boards for my street tires in the near future, I like 'em.

The only aspect of the billboard Cobra tires that may be better than the grooved slicks is they have greater tread depth, so the billboards will last a little longer. The construction is very similar, except that the slick has a number of enhancements like much beefier sidewalls and better rubber compound and everyone I've heard from said the slick just plain feels and handles at a much higher platau. You can't even compare these treaded slicks to what others have experienced with Hoosier slicks or even other Goodyear slicks, as the sidewall is supposedly that much better. It will be interesting to hear your feedback once you get the slicks on, as I suspect you won't go back to anything else even for the street.

Thats the primary reason I'm waiting to find out how they feel, run on the street before I buy a new set of Bill Boards. My biggest concern with the hand grooved slicks is wet traction. I am in Oregon after all, rumor has it, it does rain here on occasion.
The Bill Boards have really good wet traction, I suspect the slicks offer little in that regard, a valid potential concern. I DO drive in the rain or get caught in the rain from time to time. In fact, I went for a drive yesterday with it "threatening rain" and sure enough, the roads were wet in some places.
I have the tires and wheels right now but have run into a bit of a problem finding the right valve stems I like, so I'm off today to hunt them down. Couldn't find them yesterday after searching multiple sources locally, I may have to order them from some place.

If you had a similarly agressive tread like the Old Historic pattern, I would think the wet traction would be somewhat similar. The New Historic tread may not offer quite enough paths for the water to shed off.

Point well taken Dcmgt, that could make a difference all right!
Krause notes the traction numbers as follows: Dry, slick, a 10, hand grooved a 9.5. Wet, a 3. It would be interesting to see if the wet traction number would come up with a different pattern. No doubt a bunch of it has to do with the compound of the rubber itself. I wonder how the stiffer side wall comes into play as it concerns wet traction? Stiff sidewall, by the way, is mainly why I wouldn't run a street drag radial on the street or a road track. Way to much "slop" in the side wall.

I ran GY Eagle GTII's for 6 years. Decent street tires. 11" rear tread - look great.
No real issues except GY out of production.
I bought a set of GY Billboards but after a trip on backroads, decided they are best for track days.
They are okay on the street but are very lightweight so I fear a road hazard failure on back roads.
I then bought a set of Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T tires. I really like these.
Much smoother rolling, better traction, and decent look. Ran all last season, very, very pleased.
The M/T S/T's (left) compared to GY BillBoads's (right)
Both have 10" tread; the BB's are slightly taller.
Both fit my roadster with ease.
The M/T's can be bought at Performance Plus Tire and these tires are sold with "Free Freight" if that helps.
