Original 427 Cobra Engine
Hey new to the forum. I have a a 427 Block, water pump, and cylinder heads with the cam. It is all in great condition. How much is it all worth?

Let me again clarify, this is from a real authentic Shelby Cobra.

Please provide the casting numbers on the block, heads and cam. Somone here will be able to tell you what you have and give you an idea of what their worth. Also, as asked above, do you know the chassis number of the Cobra it came out of?

Why would anyone take an engine, that is in great shape, out of a half million dollar car and let someone have it that doesn't know what it is worth? Now you may have exactly what you say, but if you do, you have got to have a story that us Cobra addicts would love to hear. You may not know it, but Shelby put both 428 and 427 engines in the original cars. They look the same to the average person. This is why getting the numbers and some pictures will be most useful. |
Good question about "where did it come from". I have a buddy who has an original 427 Shelby Cobra - with a replacement motor he bought from Ford - a 427 sideoiler. He found the car sitting up to the windscreen in a pond behind a farmers house - in the late 70's. Bought it "as is where is" for $5000.00 w/o motor or trans. Had the car totally restored for a total investment of around $22K, and has it in storage along side of his original Mustang 350. Been driving mustangs all his life. Don't know what his serial # is, but the car is now "blue with white stipes".

Motors from original Cobras are difficult to identify as such. They were not "numbers matching" cars and as pointed out already took what was available till it wasn't then used a close and available substitute. A car (CSX) # would help with the story but likely not really verify it. Welcome abourd BTW and I hope you got treasure there.

I have a feeling we won't be hearing back from this person about that engine. |
