Like a 427 side oiler??
I do agree with you about there being soooo many chevy small blocks out there and see your point. I suppose that there are some people who like these cars, but just want to drive them without all the fuss that comes with the older style engine setups. Yes, that's half the fun to some people, but not everyone. I'd rather see them try to stuff a new GT500 engine under the hood if they want new tech rather than a Chevy.

Yeah it's a shame the Ford modular engines don't lend themselves to hot rod building. They are enormous in physical size. Even if Ford built an E-Rod version, it would not sell as well as this GM version due to the complexity of making it fit. An all alloy 302 would be the only reasonable choice and that aint gonna happen. Once again, just like in the late 50's early 60's, Ford is a day late and a dollar short with an engine that can compete with a GM offering. Making the small block GM the only logical choice in the forseeable future for an E-Rod type application.
One of my favorite "hot rods" that was in Hawaii was 32 Duece Coupe with 302 Ford and a small blower. Looked great and it was something different. Those giant blowers look kind of cool but are a bit over the top for my taste.
And yes, it's nice to see an FE at a cruise in, just looking under the hood you really can't tell a 352 fom a 428 as far as that goes. But the FE's are something different.

I was just stirring the pot, still bitter about the BDR owner bashing. The FE's are striking at shows. They are starting to pop up a lot more often and getting less unique - but do stand out. Ford is too busy making money right now to worry about niche engines, while GM (Government Motors) can borrow from the taxpayers all they want.

If the GM LS3 is smog compliant does that mean they will do away with the SB-100
in California and make EVERYBODY change over to the LS3 ????????
It may be a step in the "GREEN DIRECTION" but is it the step EVERYBODY
wants to take ?????????

It's just another option. Right now, there are no rumblings about doing away with SB100. In fact, the latest news is that they are moving some legislation through that will increase the number from 500 to 750.
Hey, there are a number of States that are a lot tougher than California.

Wow, I wasn't aware of any State that was tougher than California. The island of Oahu used to be, in fact it was totally impossible, could not legally be done, period. But they got a new law and now it's a piece of cake.
But dang, what State is tougher than Cali?
...and by the way, you will comply, you will buy an E-Rod motor, you must get in line now, "they" have spoken.

I think you're right. There probably aren't too many States that are more restrictive than CA. MA seems pretty tough. CT may be better now, but it seems like it can be a bit challenging. NJ?

MA is among the toughest. GA is nearly impossible.

Whether we like it or not, it's probably the way the future will be.

" One year after introducing the E-Rod LS3 crate engine at SEMA, GM Performance Parts used this year's show to announce even more crate options for hot-rodders with the addition of three new E-Rod packages--the E-Rod 5.3L, the E-Rod LS7 and the E-Rod LSA. "

I've pondered this myself. I'd rather trailer my Cobra 'as is' to a track, than put in an E-rod. The GS is different since GM has a dirty history of putting anything in their cars
What if I bought a truck and trailer? What would the difference be to the environment if I drove my Cobra 40-50 miles per week (as I do now) compared to trailering it to a track once a month and running the hell out of it?

i know 1 or 2 guys who do just that in the uk. with gas running at $9 a gallon here, and the extra miles a diesel truck will do, even trailering, it can make sense if you live miles out in the backwoods.
a number of cobs over here run LS engines here, im sorry to say.
Brothers, please forgive me for the offensive GM words ive uttered
