I have the line lock on the front wheels only and it is actuated by a button on my shifter it is really handy for driving on hills but I would not use it for long periods ...the solenoid gets pretty warm after a bit.
By all means use the mechanical lock the one in my jeep came out of a truck and has a flip lever , never had a problem ,holds solid...WD
