I have a BendPak HD-9 four-post lift. I have been pleased with it, and it's very valuable for working on the Cobra (wouldn't be without one).

Most of these lift all look to be the same. The all look like the Dannmar DX 7

As for the beware of cheaper lifts, can you please indicate what is the difference in these lift?

Most of them list that it has a auto locking, at least the Dannmar.

What should I look for in a lift. Please help.

I agree be carefull with the super low priced lifts, yes they work but you better know what to check and when. For example make sure the collars holding you sheives in place are tight (set screw) one slowly backs off over time and lets the pulley slide off and bang let goes outward, car goes downward not pretty. I forget who had a nice one where there was two pieces of angle iron trapping the locking mechanism. Nice thing about my cheapo is all the made in china bolts are grade 2, good thing about that is nobody would ever imitate that!!!!! If you are mechanically inclinded and know what to look for as failures it still aint worth it, buy a good one $2-$3K and be done with it. If I had to do it again I would easily spend $3K for as much as I use mine.

Hi madmaxx,

I appreciate you watching the eagle video and your input. I have not purchased yet but I liked being able to watch the video. They are a large company and sell a lot of lifts and I found the video helpful.
I appreciate all input !! Thanks again !!

I have a 2-post and love it. It's made by Dannmar and called the MaxJax. It's for a average low ceiling Garage, 110 volt not 220, portable, stores easily if needed, and only a 4" deep concrete slab. I feel the 4-post is better suited for storing. Yes you can buy the tray's and bottle jacks and lift the car but, what a hassle. Let me know if you want more information, pics and price.

Store it if needed

Did anyone have to adjust the garage door , and if so how much . I have a ten foot ceiling , but a seven foot door, it would seem to me have the lift would get in the way if you had a car on the lift.

Raise the door! I ended up going with a much better drive that has a worm gear that drives the shaft over the door directly so there is no motor on the ceiling. The motor is mounted on the front wall. The door stops raising when the bottom is even with the door opening so the top only extends back about
4'. My garage is 10'-6". I have the Costco Danmar 7X (larger) and it is very
handy. No problem stacking cars either.

Have body off restored a lot of cars and all on my back, never had the ceiling height.
Have a motorcycle lift table which was a must, always had Harley Davidson motorcycles they seem much harder to work on sitting on the kickstand. .Just built a new shop with ceiling height, and have been thinking about a lift.

The garage door opener you will need is a liftmaster 3800. It requires a torsion bar, not the tension springs. There is also a high lift garage door kit that gets the door within 3" of the ceiling. You are right the challenge is the garage door. If you already have a torsion system all you will need is some track extension and high lift drums, I converted from tension springs to torsion and including the door opener it cost me $600 for the door modificaiton. The opener is $300 but it is a fabulous opener and would recommend it anytime you need a door opener.

I have tons of pictures if you need help PM me.

That is what I thought, was to raise the track. If you could send some pictures , it would be helpful, thank you.

I went a different route and had barn doors made up and installed on the lift side that matches the auto door on the other.

What is not to like ?...One of the best " automotive" purchases I have made...I already had 12' clearance (RV) so the lifts double my storage space for a fraction of the cost of another garage...I leave the ramps on...$3000 for 4 post 8000 lbs...no regrets... you usually get what you pay for and quality and safety are paramount IMHO... and of course nature abhors a vacuum so now I am filling the new storage with cars !!!
