Default Mecum: CSX 3102

1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Roadster - CSX3102, 427/425 HP, 4-Speed

" This car, CSX3102 is the real thing. The second street 427, with many competition features, it’s documented in detail on pages 523/524 of the World Registry of Cobras and GT40s 4th ed. Its first purchaser was a Minnesota buyer whose name remains unknown. Sadly, on a rainy afternoon, he rolled the Cobra, and damaged some of its body panels. Dennis Henningsen, CSX3102’s second owner, had the chassis magnafluxed and found no damage. He contacted Shelby American to purchase replacement alloy body panels. Instead, Carroll Shelby sold him the complete body from CSX3005, (the fourth 427 built), which had been bought just as a chassis, by a Japanese man named George Fujimoto. Dennis Henningsen sold CSX3102 in 1966, before its rebuild was finished. The buyer was Richard J. Schopf, from Louisiana. Schopf completed its reassembly in late 1968, and occasionally raced the 427 at drag strips in the New Orleans area. "

You would think they would clean the wheels for that kind of money.

Note to Self: Get some magnesium Halibrands.

I got a ride around Pocono raceway @ SAAC10 in that puppy. I also used to have a poster of a scantily clad woman with that car up in my garage. The model was really hot but apparently really stuck on herself as well. I tried several times back in the day to get ahold of her but you know, she never returned even one of my calls.

And after the hours I spent holding her poster with one hand....................

Well... no need to ask why you no longer have the poster.

My wife and I went down and hung out at the Mecum Auction in Monterey today and then went up to Carmel Valley for lunch afterward.

Lots of cool cars at the Mecum event. It's free admission and free parking. Apparently Mecum bought out the golf course for the weekend for $85K, and we parked right one of the fairways.

I saw 3102 today. Unique car and history.

Cool cars everywhere you drive...and the traffic to go along with it.

Default First owner crashed the car and was killed.

Sorry. I'm not interested in buying a car with that kind of very sad history. Too haunted for me!!

I forgot about it. Did set up to DVR today's session though. I couldn't tell if the thing goes 2-10 or if the 2-6 session is repeated 6-10. I had to set it up manually to record both since the Dish box considered it a "repeat".
