Very very nice, what do they call that roll across the back of the cockpit? Bolster? Something like that? My interior guy says it can't be done

Sharroll Celby 07-28-2010 02:56 PM

I have a light blue interior (but a black leather dash) in my Cobra...it's starting to fade a bit, and the drivers seat top is getting a little worn through, but after 8 years and 84,000 miles, what could I expect.

TButtrick 07-28-2010 06:07 PM

never mind

Suede, nice never thought of that, its a nice finished look and very clean lines.

fleiss75 07-30-2010 08:03 AM

So I have a tendancy to hire the wrong people, and this interior guy has a lot of people that recommend him and he seems nice enough. But when I asked him about the roll for the back of the cockpit he said he couldn't do that and then freaked out about the door hinges and how he was going to cover them. My seats are done, I have all the material for the door panels and shifter boots, I bought the dynamatt, he just has to make the door panels and put the carpet down... but anything little that I ask him, he hesitates and says "I'm not sure how good it will look?" I have called 10 interior guys in my area and they all are too busy or don't show up for a quote...Is this just a last minute panic?

Snakebit 07-30-2010 08:13 AM

Race cars and sports cars don't have custom interiors. If you want a fancy interior drive a Caddy! I saw a guy at a local car show and his Cobra had bright purple carpet and purple lap and shoulder belts with a Chebby engine! "Pimp My Ride". I had to turn away as I started to go blind!

fleiss75 07-30-2010 08:21 AM

Well, I don't have a race car and I don't have a sports car...it's a hot rod and mine has a fancy interior...I swear is this forum full of old rude men? Seriously, what is wrong with you? This is supposed to be helpful...did you not read RESPECT RESPECT RESPECT.
Get used to it a new youthful crowd is getting into Cobra's and making them better.

Skuzzy 07-30-2010 09:15 AM

It does not take a youthful person to make the car what they want.

I have my interior all designed (for the day when I finally get my car), and the burled walnut plank, for the dash, is already in my shop.

And the frame designs, for the seats, so they can be cooled and heated, is on the board as well.

I built my first hot rod 45 years ago. This will be my last, so I am tossing everything I have learned in the last 45 years into it.

I think it is fine, if you want to mimick the original. I think it is fine if you want to customize the poop out of it as well. My car will be a daily driver and so I am making adjustments to it so it will be comfortable and fun to drive.

There have been some very interesting interiors in this thread.

fleiss75 07-30-2010 09:28 AM

Skuzzy, well said! I am just frustrated with these stubborn "Make it identical to the original cobra guys". I asked for helpful ideas and I get criticism. If I want fancy interior "Buy a Caddy", I'm not 80... but I did but a lot of time, blood, sweat, more tears and money into this car. How many cobra's have you seen? How many do you remember? I don't go to other forums and say "How boring" or the original style is so ugly I might go blind....So why do they do it? You posted that you have heated and cooled...they say "you are making a Honda Cobra"...Opinions are like and this forum is full of them.

Skuzzy 07-30-2010 10:00 AM

fleiss75, when you post on a public board, expect to catch a little bit of everything and do not let it bother you. Not to poke at anyone, but there are people who simply cannot resist the urge to offer you an opinion, even if it is negative. Just note it and move along.

It is your car. Build it for you. If you are building it to get praise from others, you have the incorrect motivation. You have to build it for you first.

If no one took a chance and did something different, the Cobra would have never existed.

This is a ClubCobra forum - not a Hot Rod forum... If you look for fancy solution I suggest you search in the right forum

You should read the entire post before you comment Henrik...but thanks for you helpful advice.

ItBites 07-30-2010 12:50 PM

henrik,

You do not have a Cobra. You have a kit car, which is an agglomeration of unrelated parts, most of which which were never on any Cobra. I know you and many of the rest of the Johnny-come-latelys who just buy your way into a roller like to think they are somehow superior to a home-grown kit car, but your BMW suspension, square tube frame, and unusual-looking rear fenders (and I could go on and on - but I am trying to be nice here) does not put you in any position to take the holier-than-thou stance with any other non-Cobra kit car owner.

My kit car non-Cobra-thingy and I have been doing this for 20 years and my home-made Midstates is still kickin butt at doing what Cobras did years ago (road and drag racing). What does yours do that real Cobras did?

So, let's see here... You have a kit car that doesn't have the parts or construction of a Cobra, doesn't look like a Cobra in some respects, and it doesn't do what Cobras did, but you're going to berate another kit car owner for not sticking to some arbitrary code that says your interior has to be original looking, or else they should go to another site?

The audacity!

Maybe you don't get that if folks like me and many other kit car non-Cobra hot-rodders had not plowed the ground and built our own cars 20 years ago, when it was harder to just buy your way into one, the BDRs and Superformances of the world would not likely not be available. You should have some respect for those who are doing this the home-grown way. You don't have to like what others are doing, but you have shown your true colors when you berated this forum member.

BTW, this goes for you others who consistently have to pipe-in with snootiness, but henrik really got my ire up in suggesting fleiss75 is on the wrong forum. This forum was started before there were BDRs and has always been open to kit cars that generally look like Cobras (even the occasional Lister or GT-40...).

Ok, this is the second time this particular thread has made my head hurt.

Skuzzy 07-30-2010 01:14 PM

HIJACK!!!

I feel your pain. I am an admin/mod at another board which often has its share of drama queens run amok.

I will share one of the most quoted rants I went into one day.
=====
"There are so many forum posting rule violations in this thread, if I cleaned it up there would be nothing left that made any sense.

I am just awed by the sheer number of drama queens in this thread. The, "OMG, save the chillen" to the "Let's see what I can find to really shock them" to the "I am a numpty and should have ignored this thread" types are simply overwhelming any possibility of have a sane discussion.

There are days you guys make me feel like Oprah mixed with Ellen. It's just mind-boggling. The numpty factor went ballistic in this thread."

ItBites 07-30-2010 01:14 PM

Fine Jamo, but I've been here a fairly long time and once in a while something gets my goat... Two things come to mind: One, this forum is not just for originality-seekers; and two, there is an originality section where discussions on originality are encouraged. If I am wrong, please advise.

Skuzzy 07-30-2010 01:17 PM

That was a pretty good rant there ItBites.
