Geez Tim, I think I could play like Spiderman with those strapped to my feet!

One thing with the brushed finish is that I can't trust the suction cup mount that came with the GoPro. There's just enough irregularity in the surface to make me a bit nervous. Static cling numbers won't stay on.

Jamo ...

Magnets won't work either

A mechanical mount on the roll bar is a great way to go. You might be able to fabricate some outriggers to attach to the roll bar to get some different perspectives ... one view I like is along the front fender where you can see the wheel moving as the car is turned.

It would be neat to pool together (4) GoPro cameras, put them on an appropriate 'chase' car, front & back and both sides, and take a nice drive with lots of (legal of course) passing and lane changes. Even better would be a setup like this on a race track.

Many reviews on Amazon.com are not positive (software issues, lack of support, no viewfinder, etc.). Are CC members having any issues? Should I wait for a newer release? Is the lack of phone support an issue?

I'm waiting for GoPro or Contour HD to offer an external microphone option and then they have my biz...

Bob...I don't think it could be more basic or reliable...seems like a modern version of a Brownie. We had that thing strapped into the LeMons car all day and trust me when I say it got banged around. No problems then or for the videos I've done since. while the videos uploaded to youtube are relatively short, I have hours on this thing.

External mic, etc. would be nice, but it's fun right now and KISS is never a bad thing.

Contacted Go Pro a few + months ago about an external microphone , reply indicated the external capability was being considered, but no firm plans to introduce. Mentioned also was retaining the internal microphone.

Reply from GoPro Support regarding external microphone.

Currently, our developers and engineers are considering incorporating the audio in feature into the HERO cameras. However, no specifics regarding an ETA have been released.

Default GoPro Alternative for $75

Just for those that want an alternative to the GoPro (~$275.00), I bought a refurbished (couldn't tell it wasn't new) Kodak Zi8 HD video recorder from Newegg for $74.99. It records up to 1080p and stereo sound. Take a look and see what you think!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf-zP9gh47U

Did a test with and without external mic.
Sorry for my big head in the rearview, didn't notice it until I got home and looked at the video. (Was having too much fun driving!)

Microphone was an old cheap computer mic. I used it because it was in my junk box and it had a very long cord.
I placed it between my seat and the door.
It may have sounded better between the seats or up under the dash. It picked up quite a bit of transmission whine but still sounds good when cranked!
Can't be beat for $75 plus a 16gig memory card.
It takes 5 meg pictures also.

Is this the camera ? If so, how did you mount ?

A nice plus:

I use Apple TV

That's one that is at full price, the below link is to one that is refurbished.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-312-_-Product
It has a standard 1/4 x 20 camera mount on the bottom. I made my own mount that clamped to the roll bar. They sell mounts for 1 1/2" tubes but I was too cheap and impatient to wait for one to come in. I'll take a picture of my homemade "rig" when I get home and post it.

Or if you want one that won't scratch your roll bar.
