So that is the trick to saving enough money to get a Kirkham. ;)

Yep, or the other way to afford a Kirkham is to own one of the largest tech companies in the world (Oracle) and be a billionaire.

It seems Breitling modified a Valjoux movement to suit their watches just like Rolex modified Valjoux for their early Daytonas. 6238-6265.

Cheers....

Ken,
The Valjoux 7736 and its sisters were the predecessor to the 7750, which is in Omega, Breitling, Tag Heuer, et al. Brands claim to modify but Omega does more than all other brands combined. Once you recognize the face layout of the 7750 you'll never forget it. The same movement in a Hamilton ($1,300) as a Chopard ($5,000). Of course we're not talking haute horology but they're good watches.

Rolex used the Valjoux 72 (I believe) in Daytonas but they're all in house now. Rolex is more vertical than any other swiss company. They're bullet proof movements and the finish is better than the past but not typically appreciated like Lemania. And I'm sure most fans would say the best movement ever in a Rolex Daytona was the Zenith El Primero, 36000 bph!

[quote=stephen_becker;1085170]As a factory authorized Shelby Cobra CSX dealer I have the last seven (7) HST built CSX Cobras at SAI factory, in Las Vegas, being finished up - Until December 1st I will offer them for the old price of $ 49,995.00 (+ options) -

So let me get this straight. Shelby has announced a price increase effective December 1. Stephen is offering these at the old price until December 1. Sounds to me like he's offering them at the current price.

Sounds correct to me...but then on December 2nd, you will have to pay him an extra $10K for a vehicle that he already bought from Shelby for $10K less...correct???

RodKnock 10-22-2010 12:03 PM

Yes.

Thus, if you act on or after 12/01/10, then the existing CSX inventory is re-priced at $59,995 plus options. ;)

cobrakalas427 10-22-2010 12:15 PM

Sounds like a great way for a dealer to pocket an extra $10K from an unsuspecting buyer who waits to pull the trigger on a car already in their inventory...

CSX buyers are not "unsuspecting." They're discriminating.

(take it easy, I'm just kidding). :)

United Kingdom, 1963 - 1964

One US dollar equals=

1963 0.3571 British Pound
1964 0.3582 British Pound

or effectively around 3 dollars per pound
I quoted Dave Friedman from the article on the $1500.

The original full quote from the book page 34 was, "Total cost of the car to Shelby American was 778/2/3 Pounds, roughly equal to $1500US"

Since the book was endorsed by Mr Shelby himself and Dave F. was the PR/Photoghper during this period I figured they would know better than I.

On page 86 of the same book, invoice no. 04233, CSX 2393 with engine #5214. silver/red and group "A" accessories with antifreeze ($3.55) was quote, " With $1,000 deposit, the total cost of the car was $4,474.05. Invoice was dated August 18, 1964. Tom Warth Collection."

The book is available from Branda.

The way I interpreted Steven Becker's posting was that the cars he has are allocated to him but are still at the SAI factory.

The other thing is he may not actually pay Shelby money for these cars until they are sold, paying a floor plan fee instead until they actually sell either as a roller or completed unit. That way it has a single owner title/MSO assigned to it.

Including deposit, $5,474.00 in 1964 had the same buying power as $38,255.82 in 2010 for this running 289 car.

I don't think we can simply compare 1965 dollars to 2010. It costs A LOT more to manufacture something with so much labor today than it used to. Especially skilled labor.
Taxes, health care, taxes, insurance, taxes, that nifty VAT that should be here before we know it...
Damn those Europeans are sofisticated.

Yes, sophisticated enough to spell sophisticated with a "ph" not an "f".

(just joshing, Rodney, I misspell stuff all the time).

For clarity, the invoice copy shown on that page and "most" invoices quoted in the SAAC World Registry are dealer cost figures UNLESS the car was delivered and invoiced directly to the first owner by SA. Then the quoted figures on the invoice are the MSRP. The base cost of $5,195. would have an MSRP of $5,995.

The antifreeze example of $3.55 would have an MSRP of $4.20

The "retail" on this car with these accessories would have been about $6300.

Oh, Rodknock, we had so much in common.
But now I see that the finer points have escaped you.

Not necessarily. I've priced the individual components. Ask Kirkham how much of a price break you get if you order a car with the original spec suspension and Girling brakes? Why has Superformance changed the differential as supplied in their cars at various times in thier production run if it costs the same no matter which diff they use?
