Which makes you wonder why they don't drill holes in their own caps to begin with. Nothing like selling a product and then telling the customer to drill holes in it or you will have accelerated corrosion. %/ |

The later caps including the one being discussed are vented on the top. There is also a black one for Small Block which is used in other applications too..

It doesn't work though. I've always had the vented cap on the distributor and it still corroded up. Over on the MSD forums some of the guys drill their caps so they look like a wedge of swiss cheese. |

Yes, we all know MSD is awful. But the funny part is that Patrick painted his cap and drilled holes in it, when he could have just purchased a black one with holes in it already. :LOL:
And don't give me the "I saved a buck" story when you spent $25 per LED light bulb for your rear tail lights to shine brighter. ;)
More bench racing stories to discuss at the oyster bar tomorrow. :D |

Yes, admittedly it does sound a bit stupid. But with that extra $25 in my pocket I can afford to hang out at the oyster bar just a wee bit longer.:p |

Yes # 84313, its the same as the red one used in their current production for the Small Diameter Billet Distributors. Distributor numbers are displayed in this link as well as Photo of the Cap. I use this one myself. If you have an early production Small Diameter Billet Distributor, they used two aluminum hold down clamps, they are not used with the new caps. Caps fit early and late production distributors. NOTE: The distributor model numbers shown are not complete. Go to the distributor section and check caps in "Accesories". The 8431 is the red cap (w/o rotor). THen Scroll down in "Accessories" it shows the same incomplete numbers.

I'm running a points style early Chevy Standard Ignition "Blue Streak" cap and rotor on my MSD Pro Billet Dizzy. There's no drilled holes or thrown 'n read chicken bones about it... I've got 3 years on the cap/rotor and I'll probably put another couple on 'em too.
The cap is the prettiest Ford Blue that ever graced a dizzy too:cool:
