Why don't you do what I did and buy the old red one and then spend half the day drilling, taping, and painting it. Seriously, if you just pay attention when you're switching the wires over it is virtually impossible to screw up a distributor cap change. Nah, that's not my style.
One of these days I'll tell you a sad story about a young kid who would always lay down too much paint, too thick, and used too much glue, on his model cars, that his model cars always had permanent fingerprints embedded in them. He never won a model car contest and, to this day, still shows the emotional scars.

to properly test the paint you need to install the coil wire into the center of the cap, hold the cap between your legs and spin the engine over to see the seconary voltage will carbon track down the outside of the cap--- it the paint fails the test, release the ignition key---take a reasonable amount of time to regain your composure, change your clothes and mop the garage floor!!

Way back in high school we used to play the old "here hold this while I crank it trick" on guys but I'm afraid now it might give a lot of us heart attacks -- especially if you have a pacemaker in you.

The reason I said to hold it between your legs was because you will need one hand for the ignition key and one hand to take the pics!!!!
Yes---we used to leave charged up condensors laying around to watch some one pick them up---

Update on the Beautiful Black Cap
Well I finally got around today to installing that beautiful black cap I fashioned (see first post in this thread). It makes all the difference in the world. I was pleased to see that the interior of the distributor was the same as it was after I cleaned it up (see http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/fe-t...on-t-like.html ). Apparently the holes they say to drill in the side, along with the judicious use of dielectric tune-up grease, does the trick to keep the corrosion away.
