SB100 sequence number update
I've been working on correcting the Title info on the car I purchased in 2005(originally titled in 1993 as a 64 Cobra) under the amnesty program for specially constructed vehicles in California. After 3 visits to the DMV all I have to do now is take it to the CHP and have a new VIN assigned to the car and then take it to the BAR for their inspection.
But the best news of all is that I was able to get my hands on an SPCNS sequence number.
The lady helping me said that there were 12 numbers left, so if you have your paperwork together don't wait till January 1st to go in.

road ...
Congratulations on taking advantage of the amnesty program and getting your car properly titled. Once you are done, you are set
It would be interesting to know how many of the 488 or so exemptions issued this year, went for amnesty cars, versus 'new build' cars. Anybody know ?

Way to go roadrod2000! If you find a DMV office that's knowledgeable about the SB100 process (or at least one that's willing to work with you), the process is relatively painless.
Expensive...but painless.

It would be interesting to know, but I don't think you'd ever see a breakdown anywhere of amnesty SB100 registrations.
Based on conversations that I've had with the the Hot Rod crowd, there doesn't seem to be much interest or concern about taking part in the amnesty program (even though some of them should interested). My guess is that the demand on the amnesty side will be small compared to the replica market.
Tim...so close....they have 12 SB100s left.

One thing I would suggest is that you know the SB100 process inside and out before you go to the DMV. my first 2 trips were basically a waste of time, I thought I was getting somewhere and on my 3rd trip they had corrected the Title ,finished the registation and were ready to send me out the door when I asked "what about the SPCNS sequence number to exempt me from smog?" The fellow helping me said You don't need to have this smogged. I said; as much as I would like to believe that I think we had better check. Thats when I finally got to talk to the right person, she grabbed all the paperwork and had me go to the "special" room. I had to remind them that I was there under the amnesty program and things went pretty smooth from then on.

Congrats on taking advantage of the amnesty program!
I've spoken to old hotrodders about it and they look at me with blank stares.

Congratulations
Rod,
Hadn't heard the outcome, so this is great news. Hope to see you tomorrow and watch you light that beast up.

So far the answer is no. But my situation is a little different than most. I'm not the original builder of the car and when I bought it I transfered title paid for registation and sales tax and have kept current tags on it even though I have yet to put it on the road. I will let you know if I have to pay more.

My buddy was given a replica of a 23T from his dad. The car is registered as a 1923 Ford, and I tried to tell him it is not legal in California but he won't listen. His dad owned the car for a long time and it never caught up with him, I wonder if it will ever come back on his son? Seems like alot of the old hot rodders have no idea about SB100.

Worst case is that the CHP can confiscate the car because of the illegal title. Most likely this won’t happen but I would rather not have to worry about it every time I went out in the car. If your friend isn’t concerned then that’s his business, just hope that someday you won’t be saying I told you so.

Stopped at the DMV today to hand in my paperwork (CHP VIN # change, BAR sb100 smog cert, old title and all other related things). Was in and out in no time with no problems. Now waiting for a new title to come in the mail.
I haven't been charged any additional fees yet but the paperwork has been sent to the Special Processing Unit in Sacramento so I'm in a wait and see mode right now.
For those of you registering under SB100 or amnesty in the Sacramento area I used the Roseville office. If you go there, when you talk to the person at the first counter make sure you ask to see Kim, she knows the process and was very helpful when I finally was directed to her
