My first 2,000 miles....
It's been around 3 months since I first picked up my cobra and have put 2,000+ miles on it so far! What a blast this car is to drive, and believe me, she loves being driven! Anyone who is on the fence about getting one of these cars....just do it! Issues so far.....had to replace and rewire the electric fan, replaced the carburetor, busted a push rod, replaced the header gaskets, replaced the spark plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires, and coil. I need to.... tune it correctly, still have not found the "sweet spot" with the timing and jet size, but it's getting better, do the body work (damage to nose when I bought it) and fill the roll bar holes, hook up the heater and wipers, straighten the spaghetti like mess of wires under the dash and hood, and modify my fiberglass comp seat so I am not just sitting on a pad on the floor. This forum and the local guys have been an invaluable help to me, and I just want to say thanks again. All in all, not too bad for a 20+ year old used hot rod! See y'all on the road, Mark

Congrats. Glad it's working out for you. A labor of love initially but oh so worth it.

I too racked 2k on rebuilt Roush 427sr. And still uses 1 qt+ in 1k. First motor went 6k and used 2 qts+ in 500 miles. Rebuilt in Feb/Mar/April/May 2010. Same old crap. Will Roush refund my $? Keith where are you? It's still fun, kinda. 209

Nick, I don't think there will be any "initially" about this labor of love! I don't ever see a day when there will be nothing I need to do or want to do with this car. After all of the cobras I had seen for sale over the past few years I was looking, I could not have made a better choice. 100% happy with her.

I've wanted this car my entire life, so I am not going to pass up a single opportunity to be out wearing down the tire treads. Forget the Hokey-Pokey......This IS what it's all about!

azforman,
nowhere near as impressive as your 2000 miles but I dropped off my car today at Backdraft Racing ( Speed Fanatix ) to do my first 500 mile service, oil change and retighten all of the bolts that come loose on these things. Looking forward to being able to push the motor a bit more now.. ;-)

Mark,
The fact that you still love your new toy even after all the work its required tells me you enjoy working on it as much as driving it. You may end up like me. After two years, I disassembled the whole car and rebuilt it from the ground up the way I wanted. Its great to hear from someone who's living the dream.

Excellent!
These cars are just so much fun to drive! I have never had another car that even comes close.
I let a buddy drive mine last week. He is Ferrari/Ruf Porsche specialist.
He come back from driving it and proclaims "that is the fastest thing I have ever driven"
LOL

The one thing that always amazed me over the past few years of "shopping" was how many of these cars have almost no mileage on them. My cars odometer only rack up 900 miles in its first 20 years!! I have tried to explain to friends and family the concept of the car "wanting" to be driven and driven hard.....but I guess you just have to be a car guy to understand that! She has taken quite a bit of wrenching to keep her going, but that is part of the joy of cobra ownership.

Mark
Glad to hear it is being driven as it sat for years....
Great to meet you this past August at the 5th annual Cobra Cookout as well, hope you liked the New England festivities.
Keep the wheels-a-turnin...
Jeff
