Crickets.
Next week I'll call.
It may be a stickier situation than we previously thought.

601HP,
If you do a search on Magnesium wheels, you'll find a thread that originated a short time before this one.
Check it out.

Update ! ! !
Ok ladies,
Richard just emailed. He's been out of town but still working on numbers. He has the cost for the powder coating and clear coating but is waiting for a second quote on something else (maybe casting? ).
Sit tight! He'll have a cost soon.
Richard now wants to directly compare his list with ours so he can eliminate the duplicates.
601HP! Who are you? PM me if you you don't want to go public.
What'saCobra? Same.
It just might happen.....

Pure speculation, but I think it means that the money remains stuck to the interior walls of Halibrand's bank.
Tough economy and approximately 25 sets of magnesium Cobra wheels don't amount "to a hill of beans." They just don't represent a wide market segment. Again, pure speculation.
I'm sure Halibrand would love to sell wheels in large numbers so they can make a buck. If so, can't blame them.

Rodknock,
We know you're on the list. Some cc ID's are real names, others not. Richard just needs real names.

Quick question
Quick question:
Anyone out there even toying with the idea of getting a set of mags?
What's keeping you from saying yes?
Is the cost too high? (I would never spend that much on wheels)
Cost vs the benefit? (I'm not spending $3,XXX to lose 1/3 of my wheel weight)
Maintenance (I heard that termites love magnesium)
Other (My wife would kill me)

601HP and Whatsacobra,
Thanks for the names. May I presume they are yours?
I'll give Richard the names tomorrow and try to get a yea or nay. Keep your safety wires crossed

Just looking back at my notes, I originally started talking to Halibrand back in February 2008. It's almost February 2011.
Time flies.

You could have carved a set of wheels out of billet magnesium in that time with your Boy Scout pocket knife. In fact, you're more likely to get them that way than via this thread.

I'm still learning to use a scissors, so I don't think anyone would want me around using a knife.
Well, I would bet that when the economy starts to rock n' roll again and the lines are 10-20 deep forming at the CA DMV doors that wintery 1st day of January for one of those coveted SB100 exemptions, Halibrand will rise again like the Phoenix.
Or at least I hope so.

Actually, I've kept emails of the back-and-forth I've had with Halibrand. I believe I took delivery of my Kirkham in October 2007 and subsequently starting "harassing" Halibrand shortly thereafter.
But there's also a CC thread that dates back to that "era" as well with my name in it.
Hey, lets not bash CA, Patrick, how's your state doing? No not your mental state, I hear 47 of 50 states aren't doing too well financially.

Did Richard own the company then? I've lost track of the ownership since I bought mine-can you reconstruct?

You can reconstruct the ownership if you search 'Halibrand' on the H.A.M.B.
I just did it myself recently.
LOT'S of history with that company.

small UPDATE
I just got off the phone with Richard at Halibrand.
Our complete list of characters "is enough" for the run.
He has the coating/coloring process down.
He has a quote from one casting company and awaiting another.
Unfortunately magnesium HAS gone up. Russia and China are huge consumers and suppliers of the stuff. They're busy using it, too. Probably on things faster than a Cobra
We've waited a long time and some more than others. I won't mention names... RODKNOCK
Let's hang in there.
