Chas, you're not going to scare me. I looked at a set of new Halibrand Cobra wheels that were still new in box, eight years sitting on a shelf in a warehouse not too far from here, and they looked pristine, gorgeous, beautiful. Of course, they were from the last production run in the early 2000's.
Aluminum has to be polished too. And if they do turn, I'll throw them away and buy another set.

Let's leave it at one set for now with "first right of refusal" on a 2nd set.
BTW, I'm still skeptical. You guys are smoking the good stuff (legal herb only, of course) if you think they'll be made by the Spring 2011. I hope they do, but I'm dubious.

i would like two mag sets for a 427, if delivered to spec within this Spring or a little later.
We all suffer with the current insecurity from unknown tax rates and other economic effects, meaning schedules delay or cancel and deposits are frequently converted. i would prefer to trust the fiduciary limits of one of our included lawyers, rather than an old name held by a new company and new people. i don't always get what i prefer, admittedly.
How could we keep our deposits secure? If secure, payment in full would be acceptable.
Help?

ERA Chas,
The dentist was trying to make Sunbursts if memory serves
Rodknock,
You top the 'First Right of Refusal on a 2nd set' list
What'saCobra,
It's GREAT that you want in for 2 sets but I think your timeline may be a bit to tight for this endeavor. Richard at Halibrand said, "First quarter of 2011" but we know how tough manufacturing can be. I think that you'd be better off 'on the fence' unless you open your deadline or definitely decide to be on the hard list. As far as protecting our deposits, well, there's risk and faith involved just like dealing with any small business.
Note: Obviously we're taking people at their word for the 'hard list'. But if you back out, you'll be publicly flogged by the person/persons of our liking

We may have picked one more up on the SAAC forum. For now he'll be on the fence until I get his question answered by Richard @ Halibrand.
The HARD list:
1. rodneym
2. Rodknock
3. N2VENOM
4. 601HP
5. Sal Gerace
6. Lew Ledyard
7. ?
The fence (awaiting answers from Halibrand):
A: WhatsaCobra (delivery timing)
B: CSX289 (all 4 wheels 7.5" and no powder coating)
I've bombarded Richard with our questions. He said yesterday that he's working on answers this weekend.

Lew,
In looking at some old Mag threads, I see that you've been down this road a couple times before. Thank you. Hopefully we can get it done this time. I'm gonna keep chipping away until Halibrand says yes or files a restraining order against me
And I also found some strays from the old list:
Full Throttle Al - You still in? Where are you?
Rokndad - Selling his badazz CSX and bought a nice Vette, I heard. I guess you're out.
Anyone else?

Say what? He is? I knew he was thinking about it, but he actually pulled the trigger?
I can't compete with Chas and Patrick, they be too edge-a-ma-kated for me.

We have to keep our eye on the ball. If special requests slow the train down, then we need jettison some people from the train.
Don't we just want a new production run of the original set of wheels to be made or what?
Hey, who bought the used painted black set of mag wheels here on CC?

RedBarchetta (remember him?) spoke with Tom (Rokndad). You can see his beautiful CSX, Webers and all, at Family Classic Cars' website for sale. No price listed.
CSX289's request for all four wheels being non powder coated and the same size hopefully wouldn't slow things down since these runs are so small. But it was requested, so l asked.
And yes, about the mags for sale....seller told me 2 sets went in 30 mins.
Can any buyer confirm that?

Factoid
I was reading in the Registry (pg 672) that the Halibrand Cobra II (427) wheels were all magnesium. For some reason I assumed that only mags were used on Full Comp 427's and maybe S/C's. No mention of aluminum except for the Kelsey-Hayes Sunbursts.
There you have it. Any self respecting CSX continuation owner (especially an aluminum car) MUST have magnesium wheels! There's no two ways about it.
Step right up! Please form a line. No pushing or shoving, please.
