CSX2080 up for auction in Florida, March 2011
CSX2080, one of the first 289 street Cobras (still with worm-and-sector steering), will be for sale at Auctions America in Fort Lauderdale FL, March 4-6, 2011.
The car has that original patina that many collectors seem to go for these days.

I don't think so. The first 75 Cobras were powered by 260s, after which the 289 became available. The first 125 cars had worm-and-sector steering (Mk I Cobras), after which they switched over to rack-and-pinion steering (Mk II Cobras). Give or take.

Yeah, very strange. It's certainly not a big block car...

Adding today's press release by Auctions America
BARN-FIND SHELBY COBRA TO FIND LIGHT OF DAY AT 'COLLECTOR CARS OF FORT LAUDERDALE' AUCTION
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (January 12, 2011) - Now flying under the Auctions America by RM banner, the three-day Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale sale returns to the Greater Fort Lauderdale / Broward County Convention Center March 3rd, 4th and 5th, 2011 with an impressive range of automobiles and motorcycles, including a barn-find 1963 Shelby Cobra (CSX 2080), estimate: $425,000 - $475,000.
With only two private owners from new and parked since 1981, the matching-numbers CSX 2080 is one of the most original Cobras in existence. The red exterior and black interior of CSX 2080 have been left untouched, but the car is road ready having recently undergone a complete mechanical restoration of its factory-installed powertrain.
"We're going to kick start the hobby's spring season with an excellent show in Fort Lauderdale, featuring one of the most original Cobras on the planet," said Donnie Gould, President, Auctions America by RM. "The discovery of CSX 2080 represents an important collecting opportunity for automotive enthusiasts."
The Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction has built a reputation for its comprehensive offerings, spanning Brass Era motor cars, American classics, European sports cars and late model exotics.
Additional early highlights include a 1932 Duesenberg Model J DC Phaeton Murphy (estimate: $350,000 - $450,000) and a 2005 Ford GT (estimate: $140,000 - $160,000).
For complete event and consignment information for the Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction, please call the Auctions America Fort Lauderdale Office on +1 954-566-2209 or visit www.auctionsamerica.com.

The infamous auction house where Bill Turner sold CSX3021 for $3,780,000 in January 2009 and then when the buyer backed out, and a year later he actually moved the car at Gooding for $1,028,500 which included the 10% buyers premium.

Not exactly. This auction is now run by RM, not the folks who "sold" 3021 for just shy of $4 million and then somehow allowed the car to stay in the consignor's possession. (Maybe they had some trouble collecting the funds?)

I'm particularly fond of wire wheels on a Cobra...particularly the 289 models, but even the 427 models!
Cheers from Dugly !!

The older 289's used a little different wire wheel than later models. Center laced on the later models. The ones on 2080 are the older wheels. Anyone know what chassis number the switch took place?

LMH
The change from 5.5" wheels to 6" wheels took place on or around chassis number CSX2160.

I'm going to the auction and will take pictures. Not planning on bidding though, would have to sell first born to be able to afford this baby!

I just saw and took many pictures of CSX2080 at the Boca Raton Concours d Elegance on 2-27-11 and I have seen both restored and this one in original patina and give me restored any day.

The picture location will eventually be on line but it will take awhile as my buddy has both his and my shots which he will post on Picasa after he tweaks them and we have over 1200 pictures together. I should be charging as it cost me $50 for an entrance fee and $7 for parking but the really high price was $6 for a can of Coke. I was hoping Jay Leno would pick up the tab.
