Default Barrett Jackson and the Atomic Punk

Two of my friends have The Atomic Punk street rod being sold at BJ on Saturday. Lot number 1328.1. Jus t looking for opinions on what this car might sell for. It is suppoaed to also be a Haggerty fantasy bid car and if you play that game it may give you a slight advantage.

Whatta ya think the price will be?

Jay

Jay, I can't begin to value this car ... it is a work of art for sure, and how much is art worth It depends on whether someone loves it enough to own it. I think that is a small population. Maybe $50K? I'm sure it cost 4X that to build.

The sales price will depend on how rich and mostly, how drunk, the bidders are.

The workmanship is outstanding. This could go for 75k or more to the right buyer. It is not my style but it is growing on me...

Jay, I think you are asking an honest question and the answers will cover the spectrum. JWD probably has it most right...it will all be about the overall timing and who is more liquored up. This car is largely a museum piece and for someone's Garage Mahal that is needing something from the far left. Considering that many well-restored Packards (and other lesser-in-demand classics) sell for less, I will guess that the hammer will fall at $55K.

Given that BJ's is famous for having a lot of guys with more money than brains spending “stupid money” I'm sure they'll get a healthy sum.

I hope that thing's air-conditioned, otherwise it's a mobile sauna.

I'd guess it'll go for $55K or so. Much less than it cost to build.

The trouble is there's a very limited customer base for stuff like that, and it takes two or more that really want it to run up the bid.

Good luck.

Default thanks all

I still need more input though. I have a bet with the owners and I know you guys will give me more input. Also I am trying to get to my 1,000th post after all these years Barrett has estimated this sale in the six figure range. I don't see it but a bottle of scotch is riding on it.

Jay, I think it is going to be in how well the car was done.

If there is fine detail and not excessive chrome, it should pull a good price.

Again, it also depends on how much the bidder(s) have had to drink and how cool they imagine themselves in that vehicle.

Just my opinion.

What kind of Scotch?

My unqualified guess is in the high 40's if it goes on the block Wednesday or Thursday, but should it go across the block on Friday or Saturday then add about 50% to the sale price. The problem guestimating the sale price is that this car has a smaller market than say a Plymouth Super Bird. Also, it needs to go across the block after 7:00 PM local time.

Jay,
Seeing as how it's Candy Red I think I could go $32.4k.

It was built to be driven and shown, it is very roadworthy.
Maybe it can be driven, but hth do you get in and out without scuffing up the paint and upholstery? Its a collection car and its value will be determined by how famous it is and how much prestige it will add to the potential buyer's cache of cars. It is a work of art and it has garnered a lot of recognition and press. My uneducated bet is 90 - 150K. 60% chance it will break the 100K barrier.

I think the negative for big bucks is "built in 2008."

Somebody spent a boatload on this. Personally, it's no bulls-eye for me.

This is neat...

Barrett-Jackson? Therefore, No Reserve. I sense desperation.

Speed Channel really pumped this car up on last night's coverage. Probably devoted a good two minutes to the build and what it represents. Also mentioned it's a steel body. Given that extra coverage, I think my original estimate of $55K is going to be low. Some drunk is going to buy this for above that.

Default It didn't make 100K

Quote:
And the biggest disappointment had to be the 2008 Atomic Punk bubbletop hot rod, a totally radical homage to Ed “Big Daddy” Roth creations of the ’60s that was wonderfully constructed, roadworthy and powered by a Chrysler Hemi with vintage parts. It sold for just $71,500 late on Saturday after many of the top bidders had left for the evening.
Better than some figured but probably a lot lower than the sellers were hoping for.
