Very nice looking car and beautiful color combination.
Interesting that the aluminum body car is almost twice the price of the glass car. Aside from the body itself and paint preparation, are there differences in the structural construction or fabrication of the car between glass and aluminum ?

Really cool. Price does not include engine and tranny I'm guessing.
Boy does this muddy the waters a bit on the big question - IS IT REAL?
No matter - nice looking.

That thing is a beauty. The aluminum bodies use the same chassis platform but a completely different birdcage to support the body. There are big differences in the cowl hoops, door hinges etc. There is a lot more work to hang and align all the panels, wrap the skin around the tubes etc on an ally body hence the price difference.

Yup.
$134,995 base price, for a Kirkham, renamed Shelby, without an engine or drive train...wow...such a deal.
I want some of what they're smoking.

If I commission an artist to paint a copy of a Matisse, then put it on the market with the same asking price as the original painting, are they then of equal value?

In my opinion it only takes one buyer thinking the Shelby name is worth the extra cost. Fact is it really is a Shelby, it will be in the registry and to many that means something. A little scotch will just help it along. There are still many out there with very deep pockets and the cost is relative. It helps that there are few friends by their side full of scotch too.

With all do respect to my forum friends, I'm more interested in facts. Rumors and speculation can cause harm to potential buyers, Shelby, Kirkham etc. I'll call David and get the 411.

Well, first you'd have to sell it to Matisse, and then have him endorse the painting. He would then sell it as his own. You'd have to be quite the artist to pull this off.
I think your comment says more about the craftsmanship of the Kirkham Bro's than about Shelby.

Darren, unless David's byline, or whatever you call it that's under his name when he posts, is wrong, then Kirkham supplies the aluminum bodies to Shelby, though they do have red interiors and the 50th anniversary emblems.

If people have the money to pay considerably more for the "prominence" of owning a Shelby versus a Kirkham, then why should anyone care? At this price level it really doesn't matter to those with that kind of money to throw around (at least to most of them; some are more sensible). Again, the Speed Channel coveage of the BJ auctions always talk about prominence when it comes to owning a Shelby vs. any other replica. And I think they have made that point well known and in some enthusiast's eyes it still holds water.

Well there is a bit of a difference. Kirkham supplies the frame and body to Shelby specifications. Shelby adds their non-billet suspension and other bits. Shelby also paints their cars.
I wonder if the Shelby small block cars have the 3 inch frame with the buggy springs or if they are like the "hybrid" small block cars from Kirkham with the 4 inch frames with coil overs.
There are certainly people who buy Acuras over Hondas or Lexus over Toyota. I have a Honda.

According to the 50th anniversary ad, the Shelby frames are the 3" variety. Kirkham can supply either the 3" or the 4" hybrid to their customers.

A few things that I noticed that the CSX8000's have and that the "base" Kirkham 289 does not:
1. Black paint job (with I'm sure a lot of body prep or at least I hope so)
2. Red interior
3. Spline hubs and wire wheels
4. Upgrade to Wilton Wool carpeting
5. Anniversary emblems of course
6. Leaf springs, non billet/hybrid suspension
7. All the bright work such as the grill and bumpers
8. Floor and trunk mats
9. Shelby provenance and prominence
