Winter blahhhhs in the great white north
As I continue to read the forum I become more envious every day of the guys living in southern california
I look out side and it is 5 degrees and then I check out San diego weather and it is 23 degrees right now , perfect car weather
My wife and I have been thinking about getting a place in So-Cal , however there are so many different areas in So-Cal that i dont know where to visit to look for a place
I am interested in a place that is close or fairly close to the water and where lots of car guys exist , where cruising happens and where car guys get together
Can anyone tell me of some areas that I could begin my search from
Thanks

Where are you now? Before you think about moving, check out what you get for your money. In the great migration during the dot-com boom, anyone coming to California went into sticker shock. That shock may be a lot less depending upon where you live now. Expect a tiny house for a big price with no lot.
Most of So. Cal., Orange county and south is very expensive. The closer to the coast, the more expensive. But it can be worth it. I wouldn't move any further east of the Pacific Ocean than 50 miles. Ok, maybe there is a place or two that have decent weather. But weather is the key reason I live near the coast and would never go back east.
Go to Zillow.com and browse the map for some prices anywhere south of Orange county. Find some prices you find affordable and then ask if it is a decent area.

Thanks for the response , fortunately I dont think there are many places more expensive to live than Vancouver , BC , when an equal comparison is done property to property

Woke up to the radio newsman telling me it was -37C (that's -35F) outside today. Yikes!!!
Guess today's the day for me to rob a bank, so I too can afford a nice place on the Pacific coast.

Can you at least move out to BC so we can get together in person to discuss the horrible winter weather we have
Where you guys have the frigid temps we have the rain , it has rained everyday for the last month or at least a little every day , so depressing

Hey Rob, as I look out the window this morning from my downtown Vancouver office, I think a boat would be more appropriate than a car on roads today... and it would be great to hook up and chat weather and winter places in the sun.
How about a cobra time share- big trailer takes all BC cobras to over-winter in L.A. or phoenix or something, then we can fly down for driving time with Allegiant Air from Bellingham, its dirt cheap.
Side note- anyone in Vancouver know of an ENCLOSED car trailer for rent? Mine come up from Los Angeles in mid-february, and I dont want to have to drive it across the border, drive to inspection, drive to my house etc. as the weather is likely to be as bad as today.
Cheers,
Mark

Rob, I probably would still need to rob a bank to afford a place in B.C., no?
I guess there's not much you can do with a Cobra when it's raining endlessly. Except bench racing, over a beer or two. Now that can be fun. I'll hafta get out there to join you.

Years ago winters were very hard on me because our summers were always so busy, with camping, biking, gardening, driving the muscle cars.Found that getting winter projects and leaving the toys uncovered so we could look at them any time we wanted was our salvation.

Hello xlr8tr,
Fortunately, with all that rain/snow at least you guys have awesome steelhead fishing!! Think about it, anywhere it rains constantly you have excellent fishing. We should all be that lucky! 209

The one and only good thing about the Socialist Republic of California is the weather.
I drove mine to work again this morning. Felt to be in the mid 50s, it was cool in some spots low 40s near the foothills. A tiny bit of justification for the traffic, extreme cost of living, high taxes, blah, blah.
A little snow isn’t sounding to bad to me!

Actually, a little snow can be great! You can ski, go tobogganning, have snowball fights, whatever you like.
But in 2007 and 2008, we received way more than a little snow here in Ottawa. In fact, total accumulation in each year exceeded 12 feet!!!
I took this photo in late March 2008, after the snow has actually begun to melt. You could literally step from the snowbanks onto the lower roof of my house. Incredible.
Fortunately, it's nothing like that this year. ( touch wood for luck)

Yes, we like the snow here in California as well. We take a drive to the Sierras, have fun, and then drive back to the warm sun.
It's a beach here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XCknWLU3m8

Yes, fishing is great, skiing is world class, boating is awesome, it's about 50 degrees here as well today, etc etc, but I'd still like less rain to be able to drive more!!! Greedy I am.
Cheers,
