I finally had the chance to read every page of this thing. ENTERTAINING! DCel, you are right, that is the car, but I'm the one driving. The car does utilize a Shelby block and has dual Holley 4 bbl's made just for it. Fred Brady did the tuning and there are NO flat spots. I have run 1.59 60 foot times (Sunshine Dragway in Clearwater, FL) in other Cobras using billboards set at 15psi with a good burnout. No reason to doubt Thomas' story...at all. This IS going to be one hell of a race! By the way, I just signed up as well. Gonna doubt me too? Tommy, don't quit asking questions about the cars, its the only way to learn. You didn't obtain credentials to argue before the SC without asking questions did you? Twin Turbo, got a link for the vid? Would love to see it. Rawkkrawler, Tampa huh? Lunch sometime? Yes, Carroll still likes to see Ferrari's get smoked!

I'm speaking at a conference in LV on 2/23 and /24, so I think that's the most sensible time to run the race. Need to ship my car out by the 13th.

I still don't understand how someone like TM can doubt I exist, when anyone can PM me and come see the car. And this is the end of the rope for me on those claims. TM: you can't find a lawyer named Tom Gold in DC, and I can't find some named "tin-man" where you live. Could it possibly be that neither of our log-ins is our actual name? Just a wild thought. I'm Tom Goldstein, and I'm not at all hard to find. And I haven't been silent about the Cobra owner; where does that come from? I've said where he had the car garaged in LV, and that it's in a LV shop now, and what he told me about the engine, and I've said I'm not sending him to the forum because I don't want him to get an advantage.

Assuming that there isn't a repeat of the suggestion that this is inexplicably some kind of lie or scam, which I find really insulting, then as soon as I know the details of the race I'll gladly post them and hope that folks show up, and will do my level best to get video up, whatever the result. It should be a ton of fun.

-Tom

Mr. Goldstein,

You have my sincere apology for doubting you sir.

Best of luck to you, but I will still be rooting for the Cobra.

And please, please be safe. Both of these cars have the potential to be deadly.

I'm still suspecting that if these cars actually break into the 10s on the first race on a legal track - it may be their last race due to mandatory safety equipment. It may have to be the best 1 out of 1.

Best strategy might be to hit the brakes on the first race just before the finish in hoping to stay out of the 10s and take a loss hoping that the other guy does a 10.99 or better. The winner may then be thrown off the track and have to forfiet the last two races.

I wonder if Mr. Cobra already knows this.

Drag race - stock 458 Italia versus 65 Shelby

Hi all. I've booked a drag race against a friend who owns a reconditioned 65 Shelby Cobra. In a sense I hope it's Ferrari's revenge -- the Cobra was designed in part to defeat Ferrari. The race is discussed here (Drag race - Kirkham 65 side-oiler vs Ferrari 458 italia) on a Cobra forum, where I was trying to learn about what I am up against. I'm grateful for all thoughts and advice from the Ferrari side. Many thanks, Tom

The Ferrari guys must not want to stoop low enough to discuss drag racing....especially against a "kit car."

By the way, it looks like Tom is an accomplished lawyer (and poker player); I hope he's not quite as successful with his entree into drag racing.

Hi all. Thanks so much, and yeah that's me. If I do blow the start, I definitely lose. So that's a big issue, and my friend genuinely thinks that's his best shot. On his only day of practicing he didn't break 13.4 on his best run. On 3 of 7 runs he just missed 3d gear completely, and he had a hard time dealing w/ torque off the line. (He almost had a VERY hard time with a car that pulled onto the public road ahead of him, yikes.) I'm sure he'll get better and his car will get better. But my car is just so computerized that my skill is really limited to timing the start right, having the revs at the right place at the start, and flipping the lever at 9k rpm. I'm definitely capable of screwing it up, but I have big advantages there. The skill is really a question for him. One other thing I really do appreciate is the repeated helpful reminders to be safe. Life isn't about winning this race (though it's close :0 ). -Tom

Hi Tommy, I never said I doubted your existence, what I did say was I was questioning the existence of the other guy.

On 02-02-2011 at 09:33pm I stated the following:

"Maybe I am way off base here, and if so apologies in advance, but your guy does exist right, you have thrown out a lot of teasers but so far we have not got any evidence your guy exists."

I further stated in the same post:

Understand, I am not bashing this post, its by far and away one of the best we have seen in a long time and its loads of fun, I just wanna make sure we take this gig to fruition.

Thus, since I apologized in advance, if I was way off base, I am taking the position "no harm, no foul" since what I said about "evidence" was correct.

That said, if my words have offended you I apologize most sincerely, it was never my intent to do so, my aim was to goad you into telling us more about your Cobra friend and only when Keith8 came into the foray and said he had prior knowledge of the "other guys car" did we have a third party confirmation of the challenge, thus game was on.

Just so you know Tom, Keith8 hails from Keithcraft one of Club Cobra sponsors and builds awesome engines, so many members are now speculating that he built your friends engine and decidedly knows what it can do.

Hopefully I have made amends for any misunderstanding and whatever bad feelings may have arisen from my words and hope we can move on.

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man, Zhuhai, P.R.C.

With 9700 views and 227 replies on this thread, Tommy Boy might have learned one thing so far...

Cobra owners can be far better friends than Ferrari owners.

Wink this is one of the best threads ever

I check this thread every couple of hours and have read it though several times, I have great respect for Tommy in that he came to a camp with a different vehicle to ask about our cars, taking a chance he would be spurned and chastised. I think he found that cobra owners are a good group and willing to help each other and outsiders as well, we have a few naysayers and doubters but that is what gives the world flavor. I am looking forward to the video and the results, I hope Tommy will post it for our enjoyment. He may even get a cobra to see what it is like and how much fun we have.
Keep Safe

No one looks in the Other Racing sub-forum on Ferrari Chat. Tom should have posted it in the general Ferrari section till it built up steam and/or got moved. It is also the start of the F1 press season. All the mfg's are releasing their cars and so everyone is looking in the F1 racing forum. Send a note to Rob Lay or one of the moderators and see if they will move it.

Sounds like he needs a proxy driver. At 13.4 as a best - that won't even make an interesting race from what I saw of the Ferrari on that Top Gear video.

13.4? Come on,,, I can run faster than that.

Maybe he's just giving Tommy some "hope", instilling over confidence.

Henrik, let it go,,, get a life on another forum might be a good start.

Unbelievable,,, so what Pat? What is lost one way or another? Are you doubters so insecure you can't stand the thought of being taken?

Man up, find some freakin' courage, it aint the end of the world one way or another. Get off the thread if you can't handle it.

Keith Craft indicated that he knows the Cobra owner, and confirmed that the race is planned to take place.

Additionally, Tommy provided his real name.

Not sure there's too much to question...other than the outcome of the race.
