Who says we cant listen to music
What? Its politically (period) incorrect to listen to music in a a 65 Cobra? You've got to admit, the only better than the adrenaline rush of 500+HP is doing it to "Born to be wild" at 1000 watts. So is it so wrong to have a pair of speakers in our doors or in the rear bulkhead. Having said that what have some of you audiophiles done. What have you installed and where have you gotten the best sound. My experience tells me speakers in the doors will produce a natural bass port and probably provide the best sound. Other than that everything else can be hidden and remotely controlled. In this day and age were all listening to our ipod playlist.

Installing a radio in my cobra was without a doubt the best thing I ever did to it!!!! I made a speaker box to hold two 5? inch round speakers between the seats. Have a cheap sony in the trunk with an aux input and wired remote control. Ran wired remote and mini stereo cable to cockpit. Guess what, I have 1800 songs at my fingertips from my IPod. Not only that I can tune the radio if I want through my Ipod along with volume!!! The only thing I used the wired remote for is on and off. I did put in a 150 watt Kenwood amp to drive the speakers. Sure if you listen to it without the car it may sound a little tinny, but with the exhaust it has tons of base.
Once again install a radio, with any radio you are 97% there, that extra 2% can cost $$$$$. Do some searches I think I posted some pics and even part numbers. Once again any radio with aux input and you work everything through your Ipod. You could even wire a toggle switch for power if a wired remote not available and mount in cockpit for radio on and off. |
Put in a radio or not? It's you car, do what you want.
Where to put the speakers and what size would depend on the manufacture of you car. Someone that has a Superformance and has a radio could chime in on that. My question would be, what to you do for an antenna? I would not want a radio in my dash, but if I could hide it some where and not have an antenna showing (because I just don't like the looks), what would you use and where would you put it. |
sidepipes and music, the best of both
I bought a Bose cd player for long trips in my Cobra. The head phones are sound canceling.
I can still hear cars and trucks passing me before I see them. I love it. Dwight |

It is illegal in Ca to wear head phones while driving. Not sure about other states. They would work for a passenger though. Good thought, Put in a speaker plug for passengers. |
You use a marine antenna. Costa about $10.00, it is a wire you tuck up under your dash or rear facia depending on where you mount the radio. You could mount a large whip antenna!!!

Oh sure - I'll install one more thing capable of loosening up my bolts and other connections in the car. Pass. Maybe if I had a small block, a stereo would be a nice addition.:LOL:

We all have our own tastes,mine is when listening to music it needs to be crystal clear and equalized to my needs.Music mixed in with 580 hp growling all around makes for an unbearable mix and way too much of a distraction.Like having music on a motorcycle,wow that's a headache in the making for this cat.

I don't know about Steppenwolf and Born to be Wild, but the Beachboys and Fun Fun Fun with it's little guitar riff at the beginning is certainly travelling music. With 1200 watt amp in the trunk and four really good speakers in the aft bulkhead blasting away, travelling down the freeway at 85 or 90 (or slightly more) mph takes on a whole new atmosphere. Hell, you need earplugs just to keep the buffetting of the wind out. Nice to hear the side pipes and the music anyway..
