12.9 ET in the quarter for the Cobra??? Something wrong with that number, to much wheel spin maybe, a driver who doesn't understand the launch techinique, something wrong. 12.9 is pathetic.
I know several run of the mill small blocks that can easily do better than that. My buddy in Hawaii runs a nicely modified 302, typical build. AFR heads, single carb, Ford racing type cam, not at all radical, freshened up OLD and tired 302. And he has only run the 1/4 a few times, hardly an experienced driver. BFG tires as well, so he's got NO traction. Even he run's 13 flat.
Gimme a break, 12.9? And it's a Shelby? Put it on the trailor! Man that is embarrasing!
Heck I ran 11.9, a full second faster, with my ERA, on Bill Boards, built by ME, with low compession (9.5 to 1), flat tappet cam, small dual carbs, built for the STREET!

Advertising 101, folks.
He has to try and justify his over priced car somehow.

Yep, the market for potential Mustang buyers is much larger than the market for prospective Cobra purchasers.
Additionally, I suspect Shelby makes more money on the Super Snake Mustangs than they do on continuation Cobras (per car).
So they make the lap time look close on the track (don't want to completely throw the Cobra under the bus); and then put slicks on the Mustang and granny shift the Cobra for the quarter mile--to highlight what a great/fast daily driver the Super Snake is.

Yeah, I saw a big red flag too when they posted a 12.90 for the Cobra. I just put the Cobra's weight, time and trap speed in one of the online horsepower calculators. It said a car with that performance had 284 HP at the flywheel. Something was seriously wrong with those numbers.
