Just to elaborate on my previous comment about whether a Merlin V-12 would fit in a Cobra (No), the Merlin 61 (as used in the P-51) is over 7 feet long, over 2 1/2 feet wide, and just over 3 feet tall with a weight of over 1600 pounds (dry). Still, 1500+ horsepower (on 100 octane avgas) is nothing to sneeze at!

James - I don't think so. They are from an illustration by Lance Russwurm that I used to post in the Kirkham Flip Top thread; and they served as the inspiration for my sketches. The "Milk 'n' Honey" moniker came from the nickname sticker on the first P-51 model I built when I was about 12.

Jamo and 'Werks - that 555 car has the P-51 stuff goin' on all right, but it definitely needs a set of guns to compete with the West Coast fellas' track dog!

555...bought LeMons-ready, all sorted out. Four plugs changed. BFD

556...built and run with less than 2 miles on it. Blown engine rebuilt at the track, on the pavement. There was a helluv'a crosswind too.

How about the Ryan Falconner V12 engine?? I'm sure he had some connection with Shelby and Cobras back in the 60s!! Also I heard his V12 engine is used in scale down Mustang P51 replicas!!!

Apparently they are - $65K a pop. Sure would look good in a P-51 Cobra though.

There's also the Ford Indigo V-12 from the 1996 concept car of the same name. Probably only the one exists though. Closest thing to a Ford would probably be a Jag or Aston V-12. At least there would be a connection. Plus the real P-51 did have a Brit-sourced powerplant...
