Never been stopped, CT issues a new CT VIN when inspected/registered which is applied to the door jam by the DMV Anti-Theft Unit.

All kit cars registered in CT are have the Make name of Composite

One thing, for those not into law enforcement, to remember is that most Mobil Data Terminals (MDTs) are not actually lap tops and don't have all the functions that you would normally get out of one. The things that a street officer has to do on an MDT are comparatively few in # its just that (depending on where you work) you might have to do them 500 times a day. You wind up getting good at the old right hand only commands and data entries. These days there are new technologies coming to the MDT segment with some very positive connotations like 2.5/3G service and wifi netting. These combined with video recognition software and automation like XB-60 mentioned, will most likely make our jobs easier and safer.

Never been pulled over in anger by a cop in the Cobra...except for the young lady riding a patrol bicycle because we did some crowd-pleasing burnouts while participating in the rodeo parade...she got Morgan LeBlanc as well. I was pretty sure we'd be going to jail (we take rodeos damn seriously around here), but we got lucky.

Other than that...just the time our now-Cobra owning cop-member from Madera yanked my ass over late one night just to see the car.

Gave a boss cop a ride in Ohio a few years back...

I got pulled for the exact reason of your post. Cop follows me for about 3 miles pulls me over and ask how is it possilbe my car is a 1965 with the vin number he was pulling up on his computer. The cobra in question was titled as a 65 but the vin number was 2006 vintage. I told him I had no idea I had bought it used and the title transferred as it did. He said nice car and on my way I went.

I have been stopped nine times and I have never been asked about my vin number. They have ask "where is the fire?", "do you know you spun your tires at 50 mph?", "did you know you spun your tires in first and second gear?", I heard your three blocks away."

never said anything about vin #'s.

NO Tickets
and never in the same town.

There has been 6 times where no if ands or butts I deserved a ticket outright, spinning tires, doing in excess of 100 mph, all the stupid crap you can imagine, not one single ticket, my car must be registered to George Bush, it is beyond my understanding.

Actually I shouldn't type in present tense when discussing things like that. I can't really remember the last time that I used an MDT for anything real. These days I just teach people how to shoot. Hey sombody's gotta do it!

I have only had my VIN checked one time. It was back in the 70's, and I was driving my 1966 Shelby GT350 at a normal speed on a rural backroad. Maybe I attracted him because the car was White with two big Blue racing stripes (and open headers).
I had installed new headers at home, but could not get the collectors to mate up to the exhaust. So, at 7:00AM the next morning, I thought I'd cautiously drive to a local shop to have the new collectors welded up. I was driving as quietly as I could (with open headers)

Officer friendly was sitting in a school parking lot, and must have heard me coming (how could he not?). He pulled me over, and I explained to him that I was on my way to get the exhaust system repaired. He started looking at the dash to compare my Registration to the car's VIN - that's when I opened the hood to show him that in 1966, cars didn't have their VIN on the dash, it was under the hood, stamped in the fender apron. He said "Oh, you must have to do this pretty often, eh?" I bit my tongue and was silent. He issued me a "fix-it" ticket, I went on to the shop to have the exhaust welded up, then I drove to the local Ohio State Highway Patrol Post to have it inspected, and the ticket discarded.

I have a great deal of respect for the job police officers do...they put their lives on the line every day. Most of them I've met (even the ones who DID write me) have been pretty good guys.

Our police and fire apparatus got rid of the MDT's many, many years ago. All have laptops with wireless air cards and have full access to everything including the internet. If you still have MDT's, you need to get out of the 90's.

I don't want to sound harsh but this has been answered for you 3 or 4 times on some of your previous posts. If you bought a tag from FFR, have it engraved with the VIN SC assigned to your registration/title. Rivet the tag to the driver's footbox or to the frame where it can be plainly seen. Done.

Probably assumed the registered owner was driving the car. The dispatcher would give us the name on the registration if we asked for it, or you could get it on your computer. Like I stated above though, it is not a very safe habit to be typing stuff in your computer while pulling a car over (or driving for that matter). The simple answer is the VIN number plate or sticker (depending on state) attached to your car must match your registration.

Nothing very complicated.
