t5
I hear alot on here that a t5 can't handle alot of hp/tq(mine 425hp/400tq) has anyone on here had a t5 fail,if so what was your hp/tq? In a cobra that is. btw i'm running 275 50 15s with a 3.50 running gear.
p.s not on the road yet.

I wouldn't trust it.
I've known people that broke them with factory 215hp 5.0 Mustangs.
If you have the option/budget to upgrade, I would advise you to do so. The T5 is rated for around 300-330 lb-ft of torque. Now granted, a Cobra may be a little easier on a trans than a heavy car and wheelspin is abundant, but if you ever get it spinning and it hooks up hard, you will lose the transmission.

i was at a car show that had a tremec rep there and a cutaway of a t5, tko600, and tko3650. you wouldn't believe the difference between the t5 & tko600. i don't care how much money you spend on the t5 gearsets, i wouldn't use them in anything i could tear up.

yeah i'm scared, I'm now thinking about a G- force up grade because I really like the way the t5 shifts and the weight of them is only about 75 lbs.

We have customers with many miles on the T5Z units behind various 351W engines in the 475HP range.

I ran at T-5 for 3 yrs with 400 hp 347 and another 1 with a 600+ hp 363. Still shifts great. I did buy a new Astro T-5 because I thought I was pushing my luck. But as Jay said above they will handle much more power than they are rated for if you don't abuse them to much.

Its not who makes the nut, its the nut who makes it. -- my last T5z , new from FRPP was complete crap and is whining and just a hunk of junk.
-- the one before that was fantastic. -- go figure.

I'm running a G-Force T-5 behind my KC 482. So far no issues. They do shift nicer than the TKO, suck up less HP, and certainly weigh less.
