Many of the cars I built back in the sixties were Pittmann powered, with brass (or aluminum dragster) chassis. In the last few years, I've bought several NOS Pittmann motors just in case I get the notion to build a home track. Fun when you use adult money. As a kid, the budget was only a couple dollars per week.
If I remember correctly, Go-Juice was a liquid sprayed into the motor (commutator) to get a short burst of extra speed.

I remember!! In the 60's in Los Altos and Mt. view. Two layouts and a drag strip. Kept bumping the voltage for the drags until the car just leaped right off the track and then backed off a couple volts. Ran a Pitman 704's and 5 's i think. All given to the nephews and they have all disappeared over time. Don't we have bigger slot cars now.

I started off using a revell sp500 then sub'd that over to a kimtron and finally ended up with a pittman that was quick as lightening. We used lighter fluid in place of the "go juice". Logged many hours in John's hobby shop.

I can remember when 5 of us kids in the neighborhood each had a Strombecker slot car track. We would combine our tracks to make these enourmous layouts. We'd use multiple power packs and buy upgraded Cox controllers. We had races, points systems, the works. Absolutely great fun. I've never understood why it faded away so quickly.

I guess I am a total geek, 'cause I still have an HO scale slotcar track in my man cave.
4 lanes, 16 ft straghts, road course electronic timing etc... It is a still pretty big hobby.

We have a winner. We also sprayed the "go juice" on the tires and then did a burnout. Made the tire real sticky for a few minutes. Once it wore off, your car would fly off the track.

Had a track like that in my basement. Not as long but the same width. My grandfather gave it to me when I was a kid. I remember it ran on a car battery. I would put a little paint thinner on the rubber tires and fish tail the cars all the way down the track while leaving red and black marks on the gray track. It was the most awesome track ever! of course I didnt realize what I had and ruined it. God knows where it is, but i bet it would be worth a fortune or at least my kids could have enjoyed it. The stuff they have these days are complete crap!

You guys should get a kick out of this.
This began as a winter hobby after a group of us had put our Cobras and other summer sports cars away in the fall. We get together once a week to race and talk cars. (Cobras being one of our classes)

That's great. I, too, got back the bug for slot racing after forty years. I'm currently in the planning/building stage for a routed 4-lane semi-banked scale 1/4 mile oval in my basement. To be 1/25th scale, it has to be 53 ft. which will take up nearly 1/3rd of the basement. If it has to be less, I'll only be by a couple of feet. Many of the cars I have are vintage, some forty years old and mostly of the stock car variety. I also have a nice Champion Cobra Daytona coupe paired with a matching Champion Porsche for variety, but the bodies are mostly interchangeable. Back when I was a kid, I scratchbuilt many of my cars, and will do a few now. I also bought a 1/25th scale modified from a MA. based group. I plan to get up there one of these Saturdays and compete with them.
