Roush 427 or 402?
Hello Everyone
If you had the chance to buy either motor (no EFI) for your Cobra which one would you buy and why.
Thank you for your comments.
Stu.

Same block, right (not an FE for one and a Windsor for the other)?
The bigger motor, all other things being equal, yields more torque, ergo more fun on the street; or conversely, yields equal HP/torque figures with a much less "tweaky" build.
What would be, to me, more important would be the quality of the components.....if I had to choose between a 402 with forged internals and a 427 with cast internals, I'd go for the 402. Can't imagine much else that would make me choose the 402, though.
Cheers from Dugly

402 is theoretically more durable. Ring lands are not in the piston pin openings, less side thrust on the pistons. These stroker 427 w have been around for awhile now, I wonder if these durability questions have proven them selves or not.

True, Brent have you disassembled a high milage stroker motor? Have you seen any issues? I am running a 427W myself, just wondering.

I had a Roush 402R. It came in a used SPF I had with about 2,200 miles. I put on an additional 3k in 18 months. Ran great. Only one problem...it wasn't a 427.
Or a big block, BUT I DIGRESS...

While I would never point and ask why didn't you go for a 427 BB. It comes down to what are you comfortable with and does it meet your expectations.

I am not a FoMoCo kinda guy, BUT, I have been totally impressed with the 427 SBF. Outstanding power! nice and light weight. I've not heard of anyone having reliability problems. Seems like an excellent engine. (did I really say that?)

Looks like the 427 is the overall winner by a huge margin! Are there any reliability issues?
Thanks
Stu.

If you are looking new, Roush no longer does the 402, the 427 series only now.

Sure haven't. Well, I guess it depends on what you call "high mileage"...

It depends how you are going to drive the car.
Usually bigger is better.
Pub burner/pro-street, drag racing, track, cruising?
Cam? Smooth or rattle the fillings?

Rich, this is from Mark Husar in the "latest recognition" thread:

When we were done with dinner and enjoying an adult beverage, the conversation naturally turned to cars. We went out to the garage to give the beast the once-over and she just couldn't contain herself. She had to have a ride in the "English sports car". Wellll, how could I refuse?
She somehow managed to keep her ladylike composure as she seated herself into the cockpit and off we went. As we hit the onramp of the freeway I really held back on the throttle until we motored up to around 65mph. Her hair was just dancing in the wind and she was trying to somehow contain it from blowing everywhere. Now you have to picture this...
Both of her hand are busy trying to hold her hair down when the wind rips thru the cockpit and opens her blouse to everyone's view. And quite a view it was!! As she tried to pull her elbows in to partially cover her breasts, I saw, and my opportunity and took advantage of her plight. I downshifted to third, dumped the clutch and hit at least a hundred in just a wink and kiss!! She tried to keep everything in order but the sheer dress was caught in the powerful swirl and flew up and around her shoulders for a good 15 seconds.
What a beautiful sight!!Long, long legs and pink G-string with the dress held in place by the lap belt.
When we got back to the house, she remarked to me," That was absolutely the best autoforeplay I have ever had."
We talk often and she is always asking for another ride in the Cobra!!

I love that story! Tinman, if you read this, any updates on this story?

Now that story is a real keeper! Just reminds me how useless a post is without pictures...
There's nothing legendary about a 402. No contest.
