A young Cobra fan
The weather was clear and warm here in Alabama yesterday, so I dusted off the Cobra and drove it to a nearby cruise-in last night. After talking to the regulars and seeing what was new, I settled in to my chair to talk with folks as they stopped by to look at my car. There were some kids of various ages with careful adults who kept them from touching too much, but none that seemed especially taken with my car. Then, two grandparents with a seven year old boy and a four year old girl approached. The boy seemed excited but shy. The little girl was awe struck. She rushed up to the car and wanted to get in, but was afraid to touch it. I asked if she wanted to sit in the car and her grandparents nodded it was ok. I opened the door, lifted her on to the seat and closed the door. Her face was barely visible over the top of the door, but she turned to her grandmother and produced a prolonged, forced smile while grandmother fidgeted with a camera to take a picture. When it was time to get out, I reached inside, pulled the cord that serves as a door latch, opened the door and lifted her out. She was all smiles as I invited her brother to try it out. He also had an ear-to-ear grin as he sat there smiling for the camera. When it was time for him to get out, the boy couldn't find the unusual door latch and was trapped for a moment. His sister walked up, threw her arm over the door, grabbed the cord and pulled to release him. I didn't realize she had been watching me that closely, but she figured out my door latch quicker than anyone else who has been in my car.
I'm really curious to know what she'll be like when she grows up. She has the makings of a serious car enthusiast.
