Need to be carefull out there
Bad news from Englewood Florida. A tragic accident where a Cobra driver looses control killing a bicyclist.
http://www.wengradio.com/2011/03/14/...wood-accident/
Remember these cars will kill you, or ever worse you will kill someone else.

Wow. Thanks for posting. Terrible and tragic, due to senseless recklessness.

Tragic. One lesson from this is that if he had a typical "Cobra" policy, without an umbrella policy sitting on top of it, he will now likely be bankrupt.

Well that is an interesting point. In my state, juries set the sentence (judges can then lower it, but not increase it). If I was sitting on a jury, I would not send the driver to prison.

I don't know. If it did result from some sort of "show off" stunt (and I don't know that), then I suppose it does require some sort of punishment, perhaps community service or the like. But I wouldn't send him off to prison. The suits over on the civil side will be a punishment in and of itself as well. Now that's just my personal opinion, so please no flames. I'm sure there are plenty of folks though that would send him up the river.

If the driver was showing off... up the river he goes! My 21 year old brother was killed while walking on the sidewalk by a reckless driver. No amount of money will bring him back.. We must enforce the law. That could have been anyone of us. Condolences to the victims family... JMHO Be careful cobra owners!!!! Peace, Darren

Sounds like both driver and victim were 69. Who says this 69 year old driver is actually capable of safely driving even a Yugo? One of the things that scares me about resort states (Florida, Arizona) is the large number of drivers that should not be allowed behind the wheel, period. I've seen some who must believe that they are the only driver on the road and if anyone else is there, well, God will sort it out in the end.

It doesnt matter showing off or not, we are the sole responsibility of these vehicles, just taking one of these cars on the road makes a statment, I feel bad for what has hapened. These cars are special construction vehicles, that noted, any jury will not have a fate of hart.I strongly feel that taking these cars to the race track to find out your cars capabilities, is a must.

If these dumbasses keep this up and we won't have to worry about insurance for these things at all. All you'll be able to do is drag them down to the 'Sit and Shine' car shows on trailers.

As we are tempted to throw stones, please remember all the times that you have lost control of your Cobra. Wheather because of showing off or poor judgement but you got lucky and nothing to terrible happened. If your honest, most will be able to think of at least one time. Dumb luck has saved most of us at least once. My point, " Be Carefull Out There" lest a story like this is about YOU! These cars can be very dangerous, be prepaired.

twobjshelbys - I'm 64 years young, built my Cobra up from a body, frame and 14 boxes of parts. Also built the engine and rearend. Been on the track numerous times to include Thunderhill. I take offense at your blanket statement about old age being the problem. When haven't we all made mistakes ? I have to agree with the others, if you do NOT understand that these cars will kill you in a heartbeat, then you shouldn't be screwing around or they will bite back. This is just a tragedy, and we should all take it as a wakeup call the next time we want to grab some rubber or impress someone, especially on cold tires.

Beeing 60, I'm with u 100%. It's a tragedy and a wake up call, but not due to age.

What we should remember here is that someone lost their life in this accident. We don't know, but can only speculate at the fault or the reasons this happened.
God Bless the families of both parties involved.
They both will have devastating losses due to this accident.

Never goose it, dump the clutch, or do doughnuts if you can see people with the naked eye.

I am 64 yrs old and I take umbrage to any suggestions that age was in anyway responsible for this most unfortunate accident. All vehicles are potentially dangerous. To suggest that metal shaped in the form of a Cobra is somehow more lethal than some other shaped vehicle is fundamentally preposterous.
