Last post about spf sidepipes

Okay, I've created similar threads on this topic in the past and I have decided to have my existing sidepipes modified by Eric at Performance Engineering. I know there are some great Stainless Steel sidepipe fabricators out there but it is hard for me to justifying spending twice as much for same performance increase and I plan on sticking with the ceramic coating finish. My new motor sitting on the floor of the garage will be going in the car within the next few weeks. The motor (408w) dynoed at 555 hp @ 5900 and 555 ft lbs torque peak @ 4500. I do not have a strong liking to the sound of the Superformance exhaust. Yes...I want louder exhaust such as no packing or muffler only. Question with all the theories and science of exhaust is the 3" ID muffler the best choice for my application or would it be wiser to go 2 1/2" and if so why? Thanks in advance!!

Go with the 3" and stay away from any "auger" style muffler.

I am reworking my stock SPF sidepipes with Classic Chambered 2 1/2" because my FE only makes 425hp. Anything over 450 should be 3". I did go ahead and get a set of Firefly's SS FE headers. They look awesome! My engine builder had recommend upgrading from the stock SPF headers, said I would probably get more bang for my buck there than with the pipes. I am doing the pipes because I'm not crazy about the stock sound either.

Performance Engineering uses a stainless perforated spiral baffle. I never even heard of an auger style muffler until Undy's post. Googled it and checked it out. That is some crazy looking muffler insert!

Hello there:
I must agree about the amount of $$ being charged for SS versus ceramic coating. I just had mine doen from black to deramic they are the 3" id mufflers and they are really throaty. I have a 427 FE side oiler pushing 500 hp. I am very satisfied with the deep mellow tone of these side pipes. By the way they are on my West Coast Cobra. I sent mine to Jet Hot who pretty much invented the ceramic coating and they did a great job. Speak to Jeff Howell.

I was going to use Jet Hot but in doing research, found mixed reviews maybe tied to the location being used. Which location did you use? Seems HPC and Jet Hot merged (one bought the other or something) and perhaps quality may have suffered at least at some locations, no personal experience, but checked a number of forums in my research. Anyway, right now I'm planning on using Calico Coatings in NC....good reports so far. As for SS, my SS headers are coated inside and out. I will probably go to coated SS sidepipes next year. I like the black coating for my Wimbledon white, but the clear-coated polished SS pipes are awesome!
