Anyone know who the manufacturer is?
So I've been talking to the owner of this cobra and he does not know who manufacturer of the kit is. He has had it for 8 years but doesn't know any prior information. Here is his add:
1963 Ford Cobra Replica, 429ci Ford 8 cylinder Engine that was rebuilt, C-6 automatic transmission. Built in 1997, 1963 Corvette frame painted metallic red, 4 barrel Holly carb, BF Goodrich radial TA tires, 15 inch aluminum rims, super performance kit car, independent suspension. I put the pics in the link below so any assistance would be helpful. Thanks! Cobra M pictures by aedds1 - Photobucket I might need more detailed pics of the engine comp etc... The hinges on the trunck lid look like a Factory Five. I don't know of any other manufacturer that uses that method. If there is one someone else will chime in.

Cobray (Jeff Classic in Phoenix)? Has the vette chassis...
There was another with a vette chassis, but maybe it evolved into Jeff's Cobray... |
Hmmmm....thats an odd looking car....short dash ??? does he have long legs???
not many companies that used the outside trunk hinges and i dont think i have ever seen the front over rides that came through the vent holes and not through the body.. is it on Vette frame or does it just have Vette suspension ??? some up close pics. of the frame and engine compartment would help and maybe the trunk compartment....thats an odd one... |

Ask what the wheelbase is....if its a Vette frame then the body may be a stretch or the frame has been shortened.....originals are a 90 inch wheel base....most replicas are the 90 inchers with a few being stretches....
|
And that's a bad hood fit........

Search "Cobray" on CC and there are some reference photos from past posts and gallerys available...

Hey Gang,
She is not a Cobray-C3. Over the years I can think of 5 car styles built on a Corvette chassis but none seem right. The engine bay photo stumps me but it does look like Vette side pipes. The trunk hinges look similar to a Factory Five but that is not right either. Not sure of anything except she is not a Cobray. Jeff C |

If you don't mind me asking...how do you put gas in it? Is the fill tube and tank located in the trunk like a Corvette?

Aedds, you are welcome!
Have you verified the length yet? Do you know if the frame and suspension is 1968 through 1981 Corvette for sure? Send me a few photos of the front and rear suspension and the firewall from the engine side so I can help you nail down a few things. Throw in a inside trunk photo for $hits n grins to my email address of jeffc@cobrasnvettes.com if you want. Jeff C |
Aside from the obvious detail deviations - high side vent, 'vette-style pipes, interior, badge placement and rounded leading edge of rear fender flare, that's actually not a bad looking car. For a Corvette-based replica, the proportions are fairly well done, the stance is Cobra-like and the windshield is appropriately raked. With a bit of TLC and attention to detail - depending on mechanical condition, of course - this could become a pretty good looking ride.

Didn't LA Exotics use exposed trunk hinges for a while?

A friend of mine has a unique cobra that is 25 years old and it has the same dash.

Could it be Elegant Motors? They used Corvette frames and the dash looks similar.
