Car Stalls

Hi all,

I took my cobra out of hibernation last weekend and fired it up and it stalls whenever I take my foot off the gas. It was misfiring a bit when I was warming it up too. I took it out for a spin and when I gunned it a little bit it sounded fine but whenever I took my foot off the gas pedal it stalled right away. When I put it away last fall it was running rich but fine otherwise. I oiled the cylinders, topped up the gas and added Stabil.

I'm going to try and figure out the problem on the weekend. I'm guessing fuel filter. What else should I be looking for? Anything to do with the carb I won't be touching.

Do you have viewports on your carb bowls?
If so check the float levels...if you don's see fuel on the viewports perhaps a few taps on the carb bowls will release the floats...Winter fuel is another common problem.

Good suggestion with the carb Blas, thanks I'll check that out. If all else fails at the end of the day would you suggest draining out half (or most) the fuel and replace with new stuff?

Air bleeds. This is new: stumbling/missing at idle/cruise speed

I would check the ovbious things first, visual on the float levels, tightness of the carb bowls, fuel filter(s) clogged. Do you have an automatic choke that's stuck? Any smell of rich fuel mixture? Do you have a fuel pressure gauge installed? Plug wires tight, inside distributor/rotor not fouled with moisture and ozone damage from sitting all winter. Coil connections..Any difference in running/idle with air cleaner top removed? Nothing "LIVING" or "NESTING" in the headers? Like you said earlier, something changes over the winter...Simple and cheap things to look for first...As to the entire tank of gasoline replaced, I'd bet not...Not after one winter...Unless...Did you fill the tank with winter blend fuel when you put it away last year? That could be a problem now that it's warmer out...I like "Sea-Foam" fuel system cleaner. I use it in everything gasoline powered...

Dirty Filter would likely idle fine & have trouble keeping up as fuel consumption goes up. Are you still running on the old fuel?

yes, still old fuel.

As posted above, I would do the easy things first. Drain the the fuel, check the fuel bowls, etc.

Well I went to work on the car today and I'm happy to report I found and fixed the problem of the car stalling.

I turned the idle adjustment screw on the carb two turns to the right and the car's back to normal.

Check the simple things first.

Two turns?

So the speed screw backed itself out, or something else is wrong.

What carb are you running?
