Default Csx 2286

A friend emailed me a link to pic gallery. In that link was this picture http://<a href="http://s2475****1.on...[/IMG]</a> Can anyone tell me where this pic was taken. Also where was the 289 chassis modified at Shelbys shop or in Italy or elsewhere. Thanks Mark

Anytime.

You didn't do anything wrong; there are certain sequences that will not "take" in links for security purposes.

I just grabbed the pic for you to make it easier.

Ok in the original picture I looked at you could click on it to make it bigger

and you could read what looked like 2286 on the front spring tower. Looks

like they were installing a FE engine. Where was this done at? Where were

the 289 frames modified into coupe frames done at? Mark

According to the book that the photo came from [ Daytona Cobra Coupes by Brock Stauffer Friedman ] the 3" stretch & mounts was done @ Shelbys in California, coupe superstructure was also done in there, only done to 2286 & due to circumstance it never raced in FE configuration, in fact I am not sure it even turned a wheel in that 390 form, often wish I had got to meet John Ohlsen, he could have shed a lot more light on this particular car. Photos on pages 189, 190, 191, & 222 with comments from Bill Eaton, & John Ohlsen, both men concur on that.

Hi Jac thanks for the reply. I don't have access to the book you mentioned, so

I am always looking for detail info on the original coupes. Does anyone know

how the original frames were shipped to Shelby? Were they shipped as

completed leaf spring frames ..........Or were they shipped minus the birdcage?

More questions! Were all the coupes chassis identical including the birdcages or

were there some improvements and changes as the six cars were made? The

reason for some of these questions is, I am scratch building from Chuck's plans

and the farther along I get and the more info I find on original cars, I am starting

to have doubts as to how accurate my car will be when I am done. Chuck says

his plans is a compliation of all the cars he had access to, not one particular

car, but I am finding some of these parts in Chucks plans don't resemble parts

on the original cars or for that matter a McCluskey car. From what you

understand the McCluskey car has minor changes. Below are a couple of

pictures are examples of some minor differences. In the above picture in

Shelby's shop, the tube that the upper radiator mounts to is different than on a

McCluskey or as shown in Chuck's plans and other pictures of original cars

appears to be different too. This caught my attention, as I had just made

those particular parts recently. (pic below) Below is a picture that was taken at

Kirkham's open house, but I am not sure who posted it. Thanks

My recollection is that the five coupes produced in Italy differed quite a bit from the original prototype (CSX2287). Some were closer than others.

CSX2286 was originally intended to be a 427 coupe and started off with a longer wheelbase. But when one of the other cars was damaged, CSX2286's frame was cut down to 90 inches and the car was completed and raced as a 289 coupe.

That looks like the SA shop on Princeton to me. Note the brick work on the back wall.
I was just there a couple weeks ago to see what it looked like now.

The later shop at LAX was much more open from photo's I've seen.

Mark, with regard to the lower pic in post #9 above, the shape of that front hoop tube in the original 2287 car has the 'legs' splayed out [ same as that pic of 2286 ] and they dont appear to be using a bottom cross tube . In the pic of Rons post #3 what appears to be a tube might actually be the front anti roll bar. In 'THE BOOK' there is a series of pics taken during constuction of 2287 that would help you a lot, I know the books expensive, but the occasional one pops up here on CC for sale
