Willwood brakes and Vintage Wheels
I had to narrow my rear axle (ford 9") so I am considering changing the Versailles rotors and calipers to the 12" Wilwood setup. I hope to use 15" Vintage wheels and am concerned about the clearance of the 12.19" rotors. My option is to use the 11" setup if the 12" are to big. Will the 12" Fit?

If you have not attempted it, give some thought to Versalle rotors and either Mustang Cobra rear calipers OR 1988 Turbo Tbird type calipers. This has worked very well and the calipers are MUCH lighter than the Versaille type. I am using 15" FIA wheels from PSE.

Rick, Did you start with a Versailles 9"? Did you have to narrow your housing?
Putting the calipers forward is what I am changing to so the spring will not be in the way. How do the other calipers mount to your axle?

Yes I started with Versailles rear end but soon realized the OEM calipers are extreemly heavy. So I went with the ones in the photo. I had it narrowed and got 31 spline axles and a traction lock differential. Currie Bros offers housing ends drilled to accept the bars (with spacers) in the lower photo that allows the calipers to be sturdily mounted with out any additional welding of brackets.

I dont know about Vintage, but I run 12.19 wilwoods with 15 inch PSE's without issue.

I have a Wilwood rear brake kit which includes the e-brake for a 9" rear end. They are Dynalite 4 pison calipers, mounting hardware less rotors. This is a new kit never installed. New kit runs 649-725.00. Sell for 375 plus shipping

It's been a lot of years since doing mine but quite sure they are the 12" with UltraLite calipers inside the 15" wheels.Started with the narrowed 9" using Ford calipers single master,never liked them.Now have dual Willwood masters and 12" all around.Don't forget the correct pad compound.I started with a racing compound,no good for street use.

A 12.19/ Dynalite configuration should have no problem fitting in a 15" wheel.
The internal Parking brake kit (Explorer style) is very nice. Well worth the extra money if you want a p-brake. Dont forget to order the cable kit as it does not come in the regular kit.

Just came across this thread and thought I would add to it in case somebody else is looking for info. Got my 15" American Racing Cobra wheels in a few days ago and the 12.19" Dynalite kit that I have on the car will NOT work. Looks like I'll be needing an 11" kit.

Got talking about this with another (Tom Cimino) member . There is supposed to be a template you can make up from Wilwoods site. Fitting it onto the assy to check clearance. At least that is what we discussed for the MII front with 12" brakes.

I know this is kinda late but yes it will work. I have willwood 12.19s with 4 piston ulta light calipers and Vintage Wheels 15". there is enough clearence.

Here's the link to wilwood's assembly manual with the template. This one is for Lincoln Versalles rear axle with 12.19" rotor. There is also one with the Mustang II front brake instructions.

Well, it is a little late, but thanks for the knowledge. I went with the 11" set up with the forward mounted calipers to miss my coil overs in the rear. I had problems with the tires rubbing inside behind the seat that I fitted prior to ordering, so I had the wheel center adjusted an additional 1/2" in to get the clearance I needed. All is good, but what a headache. Not sure what EM was thinking long ago when they said to use the Versailles rear axle. They obviously did not figure on 15 x 10 wheels.

Same here,and I too started out with Lincoln disc brakes.The Wilwoods with the correct pads are incredible. |
