The Anal-Retentive Guide to Trunk Organization
Created a panel to fit within the spare tire carrier of my ERA. I painted it with bed-liner, and then hooked in straps to tie down my tool box, scissor jack, and jumper/compressor box.
Here is how it came out:

Especially like the oxygen bottle for cruising above 10,000 feet...

Wondering why you would have a scissor jack if you don't carry a spare?

In the tool box is a tire repair kit. The yellow box is an air compressor (and battery jumper, and worklight, and...). If I get a flat, I can jack the car up, remove the offending object, patch it, and pump the tire back up.
So, the spare tire is unnecessary---unless a tire comes completely apart, but then, I suspect I'd have lots of other problems, too...

I see one problem...you have the red toolbox sitting in the spot where the beer cooler goes.

Doug,
Great idea, might do something similar. Will need to checkout your handiwork!

I went much smaller, AAA card and a cell phone charger. I do have detail spray though.
