if eric was having occasional issues i'd hate to see a bad day. very poor workmanship from the op's account. good thing you had someone competent do the rebuild. enjoy your ride.

Bearing issue after 7K miles?? No way related to the initial build. Go pick one up in your hand, they are babbitt, tin, you can scratch with your finger nail. Bearings fail within minutes if not seconds if there is a clearance issue, finish issue, lube issue. Something strange going on.

Yes, there are two sides to every story. I can agree we must have made some major mistakes while working on Mr. Battaglia’s car. When I was first informed about the issues I had Chris take the car over to Vintage Motorsports to diagnose the new issue, they confirmed that the bearings we shot. I paid for the charges due to Vintage Motorsports and told Chris I would fix the new issues with his engine, I even offered to pay to have the car transported to my shop and back to him, even though my warranty clearly states I am not responsible for transportation, but he refused.

I did agree to pay some of the $3,000.00 bill and confronted him about the things he was saying on SCOF , he denied ever saying anything. After I agreed to pay some of the bill people still keep contacting me to tell me about how Chris was still on SCOF continuing to bash my company and give his side of the story only.

I also let Chris refuse the credit charges on the Centerforce clutch system and other small parts we had sold to him that we around $530.00 that had nothing to do with the engine and because of all the trouble Chris was having I did not finish the actions to try and decline his request to dispute the credit card charges, I don’t believe this was ever mentioned.

I can admit I’m not prefect, just like any other engine builders out there, even the best make mistakes. I always try to be fair to my customers and even try to cut them a break even if it is out of warranty.

The orginal engine failed because of the oil pick up tube broke on the race track, causing oil starvation. I did not personally make the part, it was made by Melling, but I still tried to fix the engine in good faith. Some builders would have said it is out of warranty and it happened on the track, but I still tried to fix it for Chris and cut him a break, I did not for any of the engine work or parts.

We made a major mistake on Mr. Battaglia’s car and I apologize for it. We have built over 800 Superformance MKIII’s I try my best and try to keep all our customers happy. When you have that many engines out there your bound to have some problems, but I always try to help my customers. This is all I have to say on this issue.

Show me one email that I bashed you on SCOF. Never did.... I only stated what was happening because I didnt know where to turn. I needed help. I always stated that you were working with me and that was all that I could ask for.

I work with airplanes, they break. Its how you handle the problem that defines a company when it occurs.

Second, You agreed to pay $1500. The only reason why I got the $500 is because I refused the credit card payment. Where is the rest Eric? Why havnt you paid me and why did you stop taking and returning my calls.

Had you just did what you said you were going to do, I would have disappeared and not said a word one way or the other. When you left me hanging, only then did I express my frustration with you.

BTW - go ahead and dig up all of the positive things I have said about you in the past....

Honeslty you should have at least kept stringing me along. Square up with me and I will have a completely different opinion of you and your company. Not one bad word will be spoken. We made a deal, stand by it.

Eric,

I do not have one of your motors and do not know you.

Could you please answer three questions?...

1. Did you promise to send Chris any money?

2. If so, when did you promise?

3. If so, have you sent it?

Thank you,

Jack

I bought a CSX 6000 continuation car from Eric. He built the engine and did the complete installation. Eric installed the engine in my SPF. Eric did a complete rebuild of the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, etc. on a 63 Thunderbird for me. His work for me has been excellent and I trust him absolutely. Eric has always been most accommodating, fair, reasonable, and honest with me.

I suppose when you are angry it's "any port in a storm" but I don't think this stuff playing out on a public forum is going to solve many problems.

I agree that all this is not going to solve anything.

However, many of us will be in the market for a motor at some point. It is fair to get customer's real world experiences as they evaluate where their $ will go.

Like I said in my previous post, I do not know Eric. I do not have a dog in this issue. It will however add to my body of knowledge about this vendor next time I need a motor.

If Eric would kindly answer the three questions I posed in my previous post, it would go a long way to putting much of this episode to rest for me.

A glutant for punishment? Is that part of the gluteus maximus? Sorry, couldn't resist.
I deal with the public everyday and indeed I must be a GLUTTON for punishment. Was just trying to lighten things up.

I can see the damage from the oil pick up breaking and burning up the bearings, no problem there, what I can't see is after the repairs were made, same thing happened in what, one mile!!!!!!!!! something surely wasn't done correctly, and the other items as one bolt in the starter, stripped bolts in the water pump, wrong head gaskets?????sounds like poor workmanship to me at best.....
I've seen others tell of the great engines and installs they have had and no doubt he has done many, then throw in this thread (Change of oil and found metallic spring etc inside - need your advise.) this one just leaves doubt in my mind, that's all......

I'm not taking one side or the other at this point, but how does Eric know the oil pickup tube broke on the track? And why would being on the track cause that failure?

Unrelated to this issue, but what you descibe here is a violation of Federal law. A dealer who sells the chassis CANNOT sell nor install the powertrain. That constitutes a "vehicle" rather than a "component" and makes the complete vehicle subject to all current Federal regulations. Do you want a "Cobra" with airbags, bouncey bumpers and OBD II??????

We regularly lose sales to customers who want a "turn key" car. A chassis supplier can't do it legally. We will not violate the law for a sale. I have no idea if PE does or did so, but those who do will eventually be found out. Especially when one gets caught and blows all of the others in to gain points with the prosecution.

This industry has enough problems without inviting the Feds to "look closer".

You don't get it do you? When you pay for something, it should do what it is advertised to do. If it doesn't, then whoever provided that inferior product needs to make it right. To not have that expectation is just plain stupid. Just curious, who did your motor?

Seems in post #1, PE not only built the 460, but installed if for the owner, so the owner more than likely gave him plenty of dimes at the time!!!!!!!!!
After the engine went toast (can't blame PE for a broken oil pump pickup and I didn't see anyone blame him for that) PE offered to fix the problem and did, it lasted all of ONE MILE...I think one could/would expect a "little more" mileage out of that engine!!!!!!!!! Don't you??????

Things mechanical? How were they operated and maintained, under what circumstances? After three years and 7,000 miles, lots can occur that are not necessarily attritubable to Performance Engineering.
We can just speak to our experience with Eric and Jen Hinderberger with our 2008 build of a small block Ford. They were honest, responsive, professional and very helpful. They were responsive to our questions and 100% up-front with what they were supplying. We would do business with them - again - in a heartbeat.

Reading these threads reminds of when I did a lot of work on the side,99.9% of all people I did work for loved my perfectionism and attention to detail. Then came that day when doing a job on a dirt bike for a friends teenage son (a wild kid at that). The bike had been literally beat into the ground. All I was to do was rebuild the two stroke motor, discovering how bad the rest of the bike was told the Dad he said make it safe. The kid complained about the bill then again literally beat the bike into the weeds. When it failed again the Dad wondered why.For me it was nearing the end doing work for people. Some you will never please.
There will always be two sides to every story, without knowing all the facts a judgement cannot be passed down.
In the end found it much more satisfying to do all my own work.Only people to blame then are the ones doing the work or parts breakage.Remember all things mechanical will breakdown.Good Luck with your 460 it is a great Cobra motor

Here is the way I look at these types of things.

I wasn't there, wasn't involved, so therefore I cannot pass judgement.
