From Grassroots Motorsports:

" GoPro cameras are being used to present the US GT Championship and Whelen US Time trial Championship on GoracingTV.com. "

"......using low-coat high resolution camera solutions like the GoPro Motorsports Hero cuts most of the content creation cost out of the equation "

I noticed in one of the pictures the camera is mounted in the grill opening. No mention concerning the audio.

The GoPro seems to be a popular camera around these here parts. I also think there is a much better solution out there, MUCH BETTER. Take a look at the CONTOUR series! Built for rugged outdoor use, image stabilization, GPS if you want it, plug in mic version to locate the audio out of the wind - put the pickup right where the sweet spot of your motor sound is. This one is a no brainer for me.

I see no use for the external video port in the camera (I use the SD card to move files) so I am thinking of running two wires from the mic pads on the board over to the video jack. Then you could just "plug in " a mic.

EDIT>>> Using the existing video jack will be tough....traces on the circuit board would have to be interrupted and I am not going down that path. However, there are some interesting things in this thread around page 8 that suggest an external mic could be made to work through the GoPro bus port. Interesting, those Euros treat these things as if they're are almost disposable.

I was looking at the video and or the speaker out plugs too...seems to me folks are more likely to move the video over to a compauter for editing/processing anyway.

The link ain't working...

take a piece of packing tape (scotch tape) and put it over the mic hole. It should do the job.

I checked with CONTOUR regarding external microphones and received the following reply:

" To answer your question, the only camera we currently produce that is able to use an external mic is our Contour+ camera. This being said, a few 3rd parties have modified our cameras so that they have an external microphone. You can find these modified cameras here: Light Sport Group - Contour HD A/V-ator Edition and here: NFlightcam. "

Greetings. I have the GoPro and love it. It does have noise with the open window installed. I have used it mounted to my rollbar but have thought mounting it with the provided suction cup on the dashboard would help tremendously with the wind noise.
Note: the sqeaking noise is the rollbar hitting the rubber grommet.
This video was taken during some spirited running at above posted limits.

I've used the EVO HD quite a few times now. The video quality is very good. When the aux. mic is plugged in, I have it clipped it to the the passenger seatbelt. The sound is very good. I didn't pick up wind noise until over 100 mph.

The kit and its peripheral pieces are very complete.

It's a keeper.

" Surf bum-turned-entrepreneur Nicholas Woodman designed a camera that’s making waves with X Gamers and in Hollywood "

" Woodman, 36, eventually decided to solve the problem and founded GoPro in 2002. "

Do you have a video that you could share? Where did you mount the camera?

I bought a GoPro for my Grand Canyon Colorado River trip. I'd originally mounted it on an umbrella post but that got whacked (and the remnants of the post lost in a boat flip) but the camera was safe in the ammo can. After that I used the elastic chest mount and got some great rapids videos.

The upside is that the post mount is perfect for mounting on the roll bar on the inside center portion of at the beginning of the radius. It mounts on the pipe and gives a perfect vertical mount for the camera.
